I'm sitting here feeling stupid telling myself just to get over it move on you don't need counselling or help there's nothing's wrong, yet even as I type I feel my heart beating in my chest and breathing increasing, there is something wrong but admitting that to anyone (other than a counsellor) even myself is just so hard. I just want it to go away I want to go back to attending classes meeting new people, even just leaving the house feeling confident and happy again. How do you cope at the moment I'm just hanging on waiting till my next session with a councillor hoping for some miraculous cure and meanwhile life is just slipping by.
Sorry to be so heavy š

Hi OllieB,
Sometimes it can be really tough, dark and horrible. It is okay to admit that to yourself and to others. People here will certainly understand.
Two weeks ago I was not coping at all and ended up in hospital for a few days. That is okay. The staff looked after me.
Now I am a bit stronger mentally and am coping a little better. I'm sure there are going to be tough days to get through, there will also be wonderful moments as well.
Experiencing mental health issues does not mean that you are weak in any way, it means you have a legitimate illness, one some people do not understand and that is okay.
I would like to encourage you to seek help and also hope you feel free to communicate what you want to here. There is no need to apologise for expressing what you are experiencing.
Offering you encouragement to seek help.
Cheers from Dools

Hi OllieB,
Thanks for your post.
Part of why I'm studying to be a counsellor is because I really get it - I know how hard it is to see a counsellor, to open up, feel like something's wrong, have to get to know someone new and spill the beans. It is seriously hard.
One thing I've learned though, is that stuff doesn't have to be wrong. People don't have to go to therapy because sh*ts hit the fan. People can go to therapy because they want to. Therapy is much about the relationship (maybe more so) than whatever technique or skill they teach you. Sometimes therapy is about coping with what's wrong, sometimes it's just helping you cope in general, and other times it might be learning about yourself; about what makes you tick and what makes you 'you'.
I hope that by telling you this you can give yourself permission to go, even though it's hard. Sometimes people see therapy as admitting that you're not strong enough to cope, but honestly it couldn't be more the opposite - it takes courage and bravery to go, and you're already strong enough to cope - it's just about giving you more skills so it's a bit easier to do so.
