Hi, I'm new and looking for help

Hi, I'm new at this and I don't even know how to even start looking for help. Diagnosed with anxiety in 2016 after a major anxiety attack left me unable to sleep for a couple of days. Got help from a psychiatrist back home and after medication, I gradually got better. Moved to Australia permanently early last year and now the anxiety is creeping back. My partner asked me to seek help but I don't know how to even start - new country, new system, new everything! I'm so lost and I have no one to talk to here. Worried about who to go to, how to go about the process and the cost of it all, with my meds running low. Help?

Hi Amanda, welcome

You've explained yourself well.

With any mental illness concern your GP should be your default action and go from there. They are the first and most effective start to your journey of recovery.

However IMO its best to have a large variety of strategies- peer groups, learning new relaxation techniques, reading, medication, researching and support mechanisms.

So having said that this forum site has thousands of threads that you can access. If you got into the routine of reading say two a day your life will be enhanced.

As examples I've listed a few below. Use google

Topic: how I eliminated anxiety- beyondblue

Topic: the balance of my life- beyondblue

Topic: the best praise you'll ever get- beyondblue.

Repost in those threads or here. Welcome again to this forum.

Hi

Wwlcome to BB. First go see a GP if you have a Medicare card alot bulk bill. If not it's around $75 I think but depending on what country you came from ie New Zealand has a reciprical agreement with Australia. If you hold residency here your entitled to a Medicare card. A GP can issue you with a new prescription for your meds

Hi Bertie,

Thanks for that. It really helped a lot knowing that a GP here can re-prescribe me.

hello Amanda, welcome to our country and for posting your comment.

If you have trouble finding a doctor or unsure then click onto 'Get Support' and scroll down until you see 'Find a professional', there maybe one just around the corner, but see if they do bulk bill, because the costs do mount up quickly. Geoff.
