Help - technical issue with exceeding character limit

I cannot post in other topics. No matter how few words I type it tells me I've exceeded the character limit. What am I doing wrong?

hi Empathic, what I do is write down a reply in notepad, then copy/paste it to the reply on the BB site, I can also minimise it to the bottom tab bar and keep it for as long as I want, but when it's been posted I then delete it.

I started doing this because when I typed out a reply in the white open box some of my replies were cut off, this could have just been a problem I had, but now use notepad and there aren't any problems. Geoff.

Dear Empathic

Hello and welcome to the forum. Writing a post that says it all in 2500 characters can be a challenge but I get the impression you can only write say a few words, much less than the 2500 allowed. Is this the case? If so you need to report this as it seems to be a computer glitch.

Can you try again in another forum and see what happens. If the same thing happens click on the Report Post button, top right of your post. The IT people need to know when something is going wrong.

In the meantime please continue to post on this thread and tell us about yourself.

Mary

Thank you. I will keeP trying. My post was 750 charaters under the allowed amount but no matter how much I deleted it still said I was over. Tried logging out and back in again - same thing. I even tried 2 words and it still said I was over. I'll try again today and if it still doesn't work I'll report it. Thank you all for your help.

Hello Empathic

I reported your post to the moderators/IT people. I should have done this straight away, but not enough coffee in the system. Hope you will write in again.

Mary

Hi Empathic, welcome to the forums and thanks for persevering.

Without knowing what's happening on your end, there's a couple of things that might be happening:

1. You're copying your text across from a Word document.  Word uses "rich text" and when you're copying across your text, you're also copying across a whole lot of invisible computer code in the background that can be mistaken for extra characters.  If you want to write up your post in an external program first to get it right, use Notepad, Notes, or another program that uses "plain text".

2. There is some kind of error happening in your browser.  Try using a different browser, or as a last resort, a different device/computer altogether and see if the problem persists.
