Hello, I have just registered an account with Beyond Blue...

I have been suffering severe anxiety for years, more so when both of my parents died at a young age.

I am here to seek support, but don't know how to start as I never seeked help before, thinking 'nah I don't need help, I'll be ok' but I don't think I am.

Any suggestions where I can read about and hear stories of anxiety? Even any suggested videos would be helpful. Thank you.

Hello Melbem, I am terribly sorry for the loss of your parents at any age, but especially when you're young and it's so easy to say 'I'll be alright' but when you start to be alone it suddenly sinks in, that's when you notice what sort of pain it involves.

Sophie and tranzcrybe have given you many good links that may help you or if you google this 'videos on anxiety' may show you what you're after but please know it's important to talk with those linked to this illness who know how to cope with this illness.

You are most welcome on this site.

Geoff.

Hi melbem

Welcome and I’m sorry you have lost your parents. Anxiety or not it’s a lot and grief comes in many forms and yours is particularly sad.

Saying I’m not OK is really hard to do for most people. I recently started telling everyone I’m not ok. Friends would call or see me and say how are you coping are you feeling any better are you looking after yourself and the usual and expected answer is. I’m ok things are a bit better but I wasn’t. So I started saying the truth and it has helped me. I’m know it upset my friends and family but it helped me get support and I’m seeing a psychologist.
Reaching out for help will help you
