Hi all,, as the title suggests I am indeed new to this forum. I’ve been unwell for around 15 or so years, only JUST grabbing the bull by the horns last October where I was diagnosed as having Major Depressive Disorder with some Borderline Personality traits. I’m currently taking medication prescribed by my Psychiatrist and I must say it has taken a load off. Also currently engaged in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) once a week.

Has anyone else here been through DBT? Has it worked for you??

I’m pessimistic about me ever being better,, but hey, who knows?!

Anyway, hope to hear back from people who identify with my diagnosis and would like to talk further ......

Cheers.

Hi Jynxii,

I hope it’s okay if I extend a caring welcome to you to the forums.

I’m glad your meds seem to helping you settle, and that you’re under professional support. That’s great 🙂 One of my struggles is depression so I understand that aspect of things...as do many other caring BeyondBlue members here.

Although I don’t have borderline personality traits and have never undergone DBT so I’m not sure if I’m the ideal person to reply (I’m sorry). That being said, I still wanted to say hello and offer some support...

I know there are quite a few other members with borderline personality traits as well as members with BPD too if that helps. Hopefully they will find your thread and make their way here....

In the mean time, I hope you feel comfortable to post as often as you like. You’re most welcome to comment, chat, vent, etc any time you like.

Pleasure to have you here on the forums...

Kind and caring thoughts,

Pepper

Hello Jynxii, a pleasure to meet you and a warm welcome.

My psychologist used DBT on me or at the time when I was receiving counselling but I didn't know or realise what it was called.

Trying to manage and cope with a crisis when it was difficult or impossible to change this situation and how to improve distressing moments.

It also highlighted for me to manage my emotional experience, and not to allow my emotions to control how I felt.

What it's done is change me to be a different person than I was once before.

Hope to hear back from you.

Geoff.

Thanks Geoff,

Yeah I’m hoping it will change my way of thinking too. I’ve heard many good things about the therapy so I’m going to try stick it out.
