Wholistic G.P.

Hi all,

After being diagnosed with O.C.D. and Bi-Polar by two G.P and a useless psychologist I found a Wholistic G.P. who helped me a lot. Mind you, they don't come cheap.

Any one else had experiences with Wholsitic G.P and care to share any thoughts?

Hi bungle, what is a wholistic GP? Is it like a naturopath or are they still a qualified doctor?

Hi Jess,

A Wholistic G.P. is a quallified Dr who will look at alternative forms of health care to find the best treatment for the patient. The one I saw had a qualification in psychotherapy, and he helped me greatly, over a number of sessions.

If anyone is struggling with some mental issue, and feel they are not progressing, seeing one might be of some help. Trouble is there are not many around, and they are expensive.

Thanks

Ahh, if he is a qualified GP and psychotherapist that explains the cost. Quite a good idea to combine the two. When you say find the best treatment for the patient, I find that a bit puzzling. Isn't that what a regular GP does, as in, assess you and then refer if you need to see a specialist?

Hi Jess,

That depends on the g.p. and how much faith you put in them.  The two

I saw were useless, and made my problems worse. My experience is they don't have the traning or the time to listen to your story.

I got more help talking to a close friend than I ever got from a regular g.p.

These days if I'm struggling, I talk to my closest friend first. If that doesn't help, I try as hard as I can to find a solution for myself. If I can't, I got to the wholistic g.p.

Hope this clears things up.

No you're right, mental health stuff is often too complicated to get done and dusted in 15 minutes. I guess I've been lucky with the ones I've seen.  Sounds like you've got yourself a good one there. Do you get any medicare rebates on it?

Hi Jess,

Yes there is a medicare rebate. I get about $80 back from a $180  consult, which lasts 40 mins. Another advantage is that you can keep going as many times as you need and not worry about the number of sessions have left, as you are seeing a g.p.

Add to that NO DRUGS which was probably the thing that swayed me in the first place.

Thanks
