HPV - Other

Hi all,

I just went for pap-smear yesterday and my doctor informed me that my last test (12 months ago) showed "HPV - Other". I had no idea and was never informed or was sent a letter.

She told me that its not one of the "bad" kinds of HPV but upon reading about HPV I am a bit anxious for the results. She is hoping to see that my body had fought the virus on it's own.

I was just wondering if anyone has experienced the same things - am finding it hard to find anything online.

I have been with my partner for almost 6 years and we have an 18 months old son together and now i am panicking that if it has been in my body for a long time that he has also contracted the virus.

Thank-you in advance to anyone who has some advice.

Hi KellyPoint

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of your worry related to your test results. Experiencing worry when you are having to wait for results is common. Google can be a tough place when you are trying to find answers so I have attached a brochure that should be able to answer any questions you have about HPV.

You can review this document/webpage and if you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. In reality, speaking with your Doctor once you get the results is the best result - this way you can get clarity on what everything means and next steps (if any).

I would also assure that your Doctor has you correct address and tell your doctor you would like to receive and discuss all test results with them in future.

Its hard to tell a person not to worry so I won’t but I might suggest Mindfulness as a practice to relieve your worry until you speak with your Doctor. You could download an app called Smiling Mind that some people have success with. Taking time to rest your mind from worry is important.

You are not alone. Waiting for result is hard. You may choose to share the information I have provided to your partner or wait until you receive the results. In any case, don’t hesitate to use the forum to gain support.

Wishing you the best possible outcome,

Nurse Jenn
