Can my antidepressant be working 1 week in??

Anna03

I have recently been prescribed an antidepressant and for the first 6 days I felt really fizzy and nauseous. All of a sudden after the nausea was almost unbearable it pretty much stopped, and I feel better than I have in a long time. Can it be possible that the medication is working that quickly? How long did it take you to start feeling better?? Thanks 🙂

dear Anna, that's great if it's working already, and was this your first antidepressant.

Everybody is different and I'm sure that many other people would have hoped for their antidepressant to be working within a week, but for me I tried half a dozen and the one that I am on now, which is working, took a long time to begin to work.

I was very close in throwing them all away, as I was not receiving any help from them, but I stuck to them and probably after a couple of years they began to work.

It sounds as though it was a long time, and in depression it seemed like a century.

Has the doctor put you on a low dose which means it can be increased, and now because it's working are you having any counselling.

I am really pleased for you. L Geoff. x

Dear Anna,

Geoff's right - "everyone is different".

The only time I took such meds for depression kind of backfired on me.  Within a couple of days I went manic and was hospitalised.   (Some bipolar types have this reaction).  The little bit of stability and positivity got swallowed up big time and next thing I knew it's been knocked out the manic ball park for six and the men in white coats are running around trying to catch me.

The medical take on this unusual behaviour would be a boring "well, we don't really know what individual drugs specifically do individuals in individual situations.   Short explaination:   "we're guessing but it might work".

Adios, David.

PS  Write down that working med on a sheet of paper and stick it in the bottom of your undies drawer.   You want to remember that for the future.  As you do your undies. Lol.
