Anyone Tried 'Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy?

Hey All,

I tried this therapy and was happy with the results. I am wandering what other peoples experiences were with it.

I find it really hard to explain as it's a controversial and new therapy -

I think maybe ppl who've had more experience with it could speak to it more - I've never done it.

I considered it and my friend has done it for sleep. I was warned to do it with someonne who had MH training who I felt comfortable with, but that might not apply to every case. This was after I disclosed I was seekig to do it for PTSD. perhaps in other cases it doesn't matter. I don't know very much about it so can't confidently say much that I think will help.

That's ok, thanks anyway

Mine was done with my psychologist. I would say that it's best done with a trained mental health professional if you're doing it for psychological reasons. For example I'm doing it to improve my anxiety. So, to explain a little - we first went through a process of creating a "safe space" in my head. If you've ever done relaxation type exercises you'll be familiar with this. It could be a park, a beach, a tropical island, whatever works for you. Really immerse yourself. Then you do the rapid eye movement component with the therapist. I was then asked to think about something that made me mildly anxious, like 3/10, so nothing too anxiety provoking. Then do the rapid eye movement thing again. Then go back to the safe space in my head.

Anyway something like that. I'm no expert, so this is just to give you some idea generally of what it entails. You could always bring up the topic with your psych, Tay. See whether they think it might be appropriate for you.

Thanks Katy.

I don't have a Psychologist unfortunately. No one wants to help me.

Hi Tayla i think ur psych would probably know about it and be able to give you advice if it was suitable for u

Ur psychiatrist who you see on Telehealth.

Good luck with it!

Hey katy thanks for clariying how it works and that you can do EMDR with a clinical psychologist.
I was looking into doing it with a sleep specialist who is a psychologist.
Thanks everyone for the questions and clarifications as i know many ppl are confused about EMDR 🙂

Hi all, forgot about this thread.

I was asking my Psychiatrist about EMDR, he asked me why I think it may be helpful and we discussed it. We both agreed it could be helpful and obviously, like anything, the only way to find out is to try.

I found some on the same company my Psychiatrist is through on Telehealth but they're not taking new patients of course, sigh.

I'll do some research and see if there's any other Psychologists I can see that will take me in and help me with it, and see if I can find some videos on how it works, like a run through.

I'm not in the mood to see any professional though currently.

Thanks for the help everyone. PS, FxZIONZ - I hope EMDR is helpful to you, and others here who have tried it or wish to try it.

Hi mb20lover,

Just wanted to jump in and I'm sorry to hear they're not taking on new patients. It can be really hard.

I'm really familiar with EMDR and have been doing it for a while so if you ever have any questions I too am happy to answer. In the meantime, I did find this video and hopefully it helps (skip to 0:48) -
