Antidepressant stopped working

Hi all, here I am again after 3 month of increasing my medication dose , went on holidays . I was very settled , came back , felt like I am struggling but kept pushing and functioning . And after 5 weeks I found my self sobbing in the car , depression is creeping hard and I can not believe it is that real . My GP suggested therapy again and changing medications . GP also suggested phsycayrist but I felt like he is giving up on my case . I did have suicidal thoughts which was scary because of my faith , I won't do any thing to harm my self but I just want to disappear at the moment . I sometimes can push myself and sometimes I just want to give up on my self . My husband has been overseas as well so that might have triggered this episode . My husband has been very supportive . I just can not stand being this wife and mum who cannot provide normal life for my family . I am seeing my phsycologist tomorrow and I am reducing my AD dose getting ready for changing medication . Is there any hope I will be able to feel and function normal again . It has been nearly 10 months now in this trip . I have changed from the most bubbly , sociable person to this human who can't face the day .

Hello Relay for life. I'm sorry to hear you're doing it so tough at the moment. And I really feel for you going through the medication transition. It is very hard when you have to reduce the medications and start a new one. I've been through that twice and it is awful.

It seems to take forever to get treatment right sometimes. Meanwhile we suffer. But, there is hope hun. Once you get the right drugs and the right help life will improve for you.

A couple of things I want to mention - if you are reducing dosage on your drugs, please follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. It is dangerous to reduce too quickly or to cease them suddenly.

Also, your doctor might be suggesting a psychiatrist because they are more expert in medication - GPs can only do so much with drugs for mental health conditions (and psychologists can't prescribe).

If the suicidal thoughts return and start to take hold, please get immediate help, especially while you're on your own. Call the BB helpline on 1300 22 4636 or Lifeline on 131114. And you can call the BB helpline anytime - it doesn't need to be an emergency, call for a chat if you want to.

I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow hun. Come back and let us know?

Very best to you

Hello Relay for Life

Thankyou for reaching out. Kazzl has great guidance above and makes a great point of the value of a psychiatrist being necessary where the changeover of meds are concerned.

There is always hope...always. I have had depression since 1996 and take meds....after finding the right one.

Let time pass, you have an illness that will get better with regular visits to a doc and counselor.

You are very welcome to post back as many times as you wish...

I hope your appointment went okay for you 🙂

Kind thoughts

Paul
