Hey everyone!
I just wanted to ask a question and to see if anybody else has the same thing. I have been on anti depressant/ anxiety medication for the past ten years and over time by brain is becoming more and more foggy. It feels like I am becoming stupid and I'm struggling to remember and think of things. It's really quiet scary, I'm 28. Could it be from the medication? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi Mc G..welcome
Can only talk about my own experience with AD's.
Yes, I've had that foggy feel. In fact recently I had it and went to my doctor and he told me that over 11 years things have changed with me. He suggested I lower my dose just 5 mgms and see how it goes. It helped but didnt fix it totally. Then he suggested I take the larger dose prior to sleep and the smaller dose in the morning. It worked and am really happy with that.
Check with your doctor though. Best be safe about any alterations.

I only tend to get the fog when I increase doses or when I am heading into a relapse phase. I get slower at everything and everything gets harder and takes a lot more processing power. Might be good to check in with GP. Other factors like iron levels, B12 levels, etc might be a factor. Also thyroid levels.
I wonder if there is any longitudinal studies on the effects of anti depressants. I do worry about the long term effects of taking antidepressants.
Good Luck.
