Hey

So my psychiatrist wants me to volontary admit myself to a public hospital. Does anyone know of the benefits? I’m hesitant, I don’t want people to know or find out.

There werent really many benefits for me but that’s not to say there won’t be benefits for yourself or other people. I mean it’s okay for abit of getting back on track and a rest from every day life in relation to mental health. There are just some mental health conditions where people don’t get much better in hospitals admissions that’s what happened to me. Voluntary is a much better way to be admitted. Involuntary is really not the best because it’s very restrictive when it comes to some of your rights. You can’t just leave when you want when your involuntary for example. You don’t have to tell anyone that your in hospital. It’s all your choice.

hi, I agree with Mara because when you voluntary go into hospital means you can leave when you want to and that's why your psychiatrist has suggested this.
If they thought it was so serious then they would have admitted you, I'm not saying that it isn't, but when I was taken to hospital by police, I hated it, and had to lie to a doctor and my wife, who wasn't living with me at that stage, so I could be released.
There is a benefit by going and that's they by trying you on another AD which may just be the one you've been looking for, however you have to be sure that there is a place to accommodate you.
Do you have any private insurance which may then allow you to go into a private hospital, I know it's expensive and probably haven't, but if it needs to be done then your psychiatrist may have to admit you, but if you need the help then that's what should be done. Geoff.

No I don’t have any private health. Yeah it’s voluntary and then at least I go before they make me.

What do they do in hospital? I’m kind of scared to go? What sort of stuff is there? Is it just sitting around all day doing nothing? I don’t know what to expect so I’m kind of scared

hi, well you sit around and occasionally a doctor will visit you, but you get your med's on time. Geoff.

Hi 168843689,

When I was in hospital there was colouring in, jewellery making, cooking, walking,TV,music, magazines, a psychologist, psychiatrist etc. A lot of time was sitting around though. Time is spent having meals as well. It's not all fun and games though because as you could imagine there are unwell people in there.
