Six Year old with anxiety

Hi...

My six year old son is in the process of being diagnosed "officially" with anxiety (GAD) and most likely autism spectrum disorder.

My heart is broken for him... and I will do anything and everything to help him.

He is such a beautiful soul.. and it's so hard to see him struggle through his young life.

Does anyone else have anyone so little with anxiety?

Thanks...

Hi Bluebell,

Sorry you haven't had a reply as yet.  In the meantime, have you looked through our Healthy Families website? We have a section for children your son's age with resources you may find helpful:

Hi b.l.u.e.b.e.l.l.

Thanks for your post.

I don't have a little one with anxiety, but what I do have is a resource that might be able to help -

This one has a little tip sheet on anxiety as well as a couple of strategies that might help like talking about anxiety and helping them identify it (like Mr. Worry). They also have a phone number you can call for support. It may even help to learn more about anxiety if you're not familiar with it - people can experience it in lots of different ways. https://www.parentline.com.au/parenting-information/tip-sheets/anxiety.php

If you can, try to remember that the diagnosis is a good thing so that he can get some help. Lots of children can have anxiety disorders and so it's not uncommon. Even though it might be difficult to watch your little one struggle, it doesn't necessarily mean that his life will be like this. Being able to learn anxiety techniques can help him now and in the future.

Thanks so much - appreciate it.
