My daughter has recently been diagnosed with BPD. She is 17yrs old in a few weeks and I am looking to connect with other parents for support, and knowledge. It feels very isolating when you are trying to wrap your head around it while managing the intensity of emotions. Friends are supportive but they don't really understand what's going on to offer valuable advice and also help me to feel connected.

Hey Lady Lola,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the forums.
I can only imagine the whirlwind of emotions that you and your daughter are experiencing. BPD is a tricky one for people to understand if they haven't had experience with it either through a friend, family member, or even personally. Luckily, there is a thread full of posts by individuals with BPD, and by loved ones of those with BPD which you can find on our Staying Well thread, called This Bipolar Life. Just a word of warning, there are A LOT of posts, so it may be overwhelming at first, but hopefully you find some helpful.

Hi Lady Lola,
Welcome to the beyondblue online community.
We would have to agree with LavendarTea, borderline personality disorder is very complex and can bring about challenges with managing one’s emotions and impulses that may not be easily understood by loved ones, although they may be eager to offer support. It looks like LavendarTea was meaning to direct you to pages relevant to supporting individuals experiencing BPD rather than bipolar disorder, so we’ve posted some links below.
You may find the Supporting family and friends with a mental health condition (carers) section of the forum and this thread in particular to be helpful: BPD? . It has been a couple months since someone has posted on this thread but feel free to jump in and continue the conversation.
We hope you find the forums to be a supportive space to connect and feel less isolated with supporting your daughter through this difficult time.
