My husband has been telling me he is depressed for the last 6 months. He won't go to work or do anything. We have our on business and he is the only one that works in it. He won't answer phone calls for the business. I work full time at my job and I am struggling to get bills paid and he doesn't even seem to care. Christmas is around the corner and I don't have one present. I have 5 children who ask me all the time what's wrong with dad. It has broken my love for him and I feel like I am not doing the right things for the children. Every time I am alone I just seem to cry. I don't let the kids see me like this. Please help

Hi FH, welcome to Beyond Blue forums
his seems to be a growing trend or maybe its been like this all along, sufferers more often men than women, in denial or thinking they can battle against depression without help. It's silly really. And it is inconsiderate.
By now you're tearing your hair out because even the children are asking what's up. There's little doubt he has depressive issues but the effect of his behaviour is leaving your to carry the weight of the family to keep it functioning.
Running a family is a team effort. Everyone from the top to the bottom needs to pull their weight. When one loses their ability to do so, someone else has to raise their efforts to take up the slack. It makes things really hard.
Many times we've read this. Unfortunately such behaviour has its cost. your love has gone south over it. I'm hoping its temporary. Is he capable of answering the phone, attending to toiletry needs, driving, talking ??? Then he can talk toa therapist also. Failing him doing so- you go. Yes. you have to go to learn new strategies to cope without his help. And hoping he follows you eventually. to a session.
Often carers in your situation end up with depression issues also.
Those posts above will assist you. Also this one might nail it also. Use search for these threads. If search doesnt work and shows "system error" thi first thread below wasnt posted long ago under depression.
Does stubborness have a place?
And this one if you can get your husband to read it
Good luck. Dont be afraid to repost if needed.
