Uncomfortable thoughts

Rarra
Community Member

I'm feeling physical pain from my depression. I have this crushing pressure in my chest and the desire to get outside of my own skin to escape it. Suicide is popping into my thoughts a lot and I feel so disconnected and lonely.

My mental health had seemed quite good for the last few months but this last week I have taken a bad turn and the thoughts and feelings that are circling around me are uncomfortable and relentless. Any former coping doesn't seem to be as effective.

Dear Rarra,

We're sorry to read how difficult things are for you right now. It must feel so uncomfortable to have a crushing pressure in your chest and feel the need to escape your own skin. Feeling disconnected and lonely during a time like this must also be really hard. We feel for you. We're not sure if you're receiving professional mental health support, but If so, keep in mind that mental health progress is not always linear; people will feel better, then feel worse, then feel better again. You felt quite good the last few months and you can (or most likely will) feel good again.

We're so glad you posted here, especially because you feel so disconnected and lonely. You do not have to go through this alone, and our community is here to support you.

If things become too distressing and overwhelming for you, please remember that here are always crisis support services available such as at Lifeline (13 11 14), Suicide Call Back Service (1300 659 467), or emergency services (000 – Triple zero) if you find yourself to be in immediate danger.

Of course, you are always more than welcome to contact our dedicated support line, staffed by mental health professionals, which is available 24/7 on 1300 22 4636 or on Webchat 3pm-12am AEST on our website: www.beyondblue.org.au/getsupport. If you aren't yet linked in with a mental health professional, they can also help you with referrals in this regard.

Again, we're so glad you posted and shared how you're feeling. Please do continue to post as you see fit. We're always around to offer support.

Hi there

I can relate to that heaviness, and wanting to get away from self. It’s awful. I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. If your usual strategies aren’t working, I wonder if there’s anything different you could try that you haven’t tried before? I’m not sure what you usually use, but journaling, yoga, meditation, exercise, healthy eating, talking, group therapy, breathing techniques… maybe trying something different might bring some relief.

Is there anything new you’re dealing with that might have increased these feelings?

Kind thoughts, Katy
