Hello Dear PTSD Survivor...
Like our lovely Sophie. I would also like to kindly Welcome you to the forums...
I am sorry your struggling with PTSD...I feel it’s one of the hardest of mental health issues to manage...When I am triggered into a PTSD episode I go down me so quickly..I don’t even know it happened....until I have already spiralled down it the darkness....and unhealthy thoughts start to surface..
My counsellor has told me the quicker we can distract ourselves away from those thoughts...the quicker we can start back up again...So I try hard to know my triggers and keep away from them if I can...
I try different ways to distract my thoughts away from flashbacks, feelings by first trying to ground myself..(bring me back into the here and now)..Tell my self I’m safe...and listen to some music, even sing a long with it...sometimes I’ll play Internet games or watch YouTube vids...hobbies I used to do are sort of triggers for me...
It took me a while to reach out to my Dr., when I did she started a mental health care plan for me...Now I have a professional trauma counsellor and I’m starting to understand my emotional reactions to my PTSD...Please PTSD survivor..I urge you to reach out for help from your Dr...PTSD in my thoughts only..is nearly impossible to manage ourselves....
Please talk here anytime you feel up to it..and you can share as little or as much as you like on you PTSD...We are all here to help support you as much as we can...
Sending you my kindest wishes with caring thoughts..
Grandy..
