Coping in the emergency department

Centaured
Community Member
Sometimes in mental health crisis's we end up in the emergency department. And that totally ok, being safe is important.
but how do we cope with our crisis while waiting?
What are some helpful strategies you have found useful during your stay in the department?

I often get stuck in the emergency room waiting room overnight due to the fact there is no mental health team 24/7 where I live. I'm really struggling being here tonight. My usual strategies of listening to music isn't really working so I'm wondering if there is anything else I should try. Please note my concentration and attention is limited due to being in crisis. I feel trapped and stuck.
I wish lifeline text was 24/7 coz I could really use someone to talk to. Are there any other online options as I cant really call someone due to the nature of a waiting room.

Is it okay to ask you what music type/era of music calms you and gives you some mind peace?....

Hey C

It's great to hear from you! We miss you when you're not around.

I'm so sorry to hear you're struggling, huge hugs.

I really wish you all the best with your treatment on Monday.

Praying for a breakthrough for you.

Lots of love
EM

Grandy I'm into Core (A type of metal). Pretty much anything emo lol. I never really grew out of my emo phase since highschool ten years ago. My favourite band right now is called Hollow Front, an American meralcore band from Michigan. A lot of they're songs are about overcoming mental health issues. My favourite song is called PANIC, it's really good at describing panic attacks and anxiety. Another great band is Our Mirage, a Swedish metal band who sings about his struggle with suicide and bipolar.
I like core because it's a safe way for me to express my feelings and feel less alone because the music hits home. And as odd as it sounds the heavy music relaxes and soothes me because I can feel the beat and melody and not have to feel anything else.

EM thank you. I'm starting to get nervous about the ECT. Im also so tired of hospital, but they think I'll only be here another week and do most of the treatment as an outpatient.

EM tbh I hate meditation. Works great for some but makes me severally agitated and stuff. I'll stick to my metal, it's helping me tonight.

I'm struggling with my thoughts tonight. And my pain is getting to me. I'm alsk so tired and I'm scared of ECT in the morning.
My nurse hasn't once checked in with me despite the fact I've been crying in room whole shift. Eh. I feel like I don't matter anyway.

Hey Centaured

I hope this helps..even a little..Its a thread topic that has positive feedback about ECT from people doing it hard
