Hey to anyone reading this.
Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.
OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.
So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......
I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Hi all,
Today I walked briskly on Breakwater Path. Briskly one way, then I walked slower back. My thoughts would not be quite. Kept thinking and thinking. Glad I walked out there again though. I did look in the port to see if perhaps there were any dolphins in there again. But no.. I didn't see any.

Hi Shelley, david'n'goliath, and all reading,
I was sure I responded to your message here yesterday, but obviously I didn't!
The sand trucks seem to be carting sand from one end of the beach to the other. It is happening on a lot of city beaches at the moment and seems to be an ongoing thing. Has been happening for months. The beach was really cut up by the trucks as it was high tide and very little beach to walk on as it was.
I like the idea of recording the sounds around me as well. Usually I try to find places to walk where it is quiet to calm my mind and I hear the occasional bird only.
You have reminded me of some CDs I have with music and nature sounds, I will utilise those at home, great idea.
My walk along the roads here are frequented with cars unless I take a back dirt road, park the car and go for a walk. Yesterday I walked on one of the local roads and lots of cars and trucks whizzed past. I did manage to hear some birds though as well so that was nice.
I have a raging headache, seems to be the normal for me lately so I might go for a drive and find a quiet road to walk on later.
Yesterday I did some raking and spraying of weeds in the gravel. It was nice out in the sun when the wind wasn't blowing.
Thinking of you Shelley and your journey with God. He is always with us, I know it doesn't feel that way at times!
To all reading, hope you have a good day and manage some walking or other exercise. Cheers from Dools

Hi david'n'goliath,
Buffy looks cute and very attentive. Sorry to read you were feeling a bit wobbly out walking and your wife's sciatica was playing up. That can be a dreadful pain!
Is there a place near you like a dog park where the dogs can run free for a while? I enjoy watching people's dogs have fun at the beach. Some of them look like they are having such a great time.
Hope you manage a walk again today. Cheers from Dools

G'day Doolhof,
Yeh mate, the morning walk is at a dog park and wife lets them off the lead to explore. Dogs are 11 years old so running around aint much their business anymore, but they do like off lead fun.

Hi again,
I can imagine the dogs have a good sniff around the place when they get to the dog park.
Are there seats in the park so you can sit down for a while?
I went for a walk this morning along a dirt road that is rarely used except for farmer access and motor bike riders. It was lovely to sit next to a tree for a while and just listen to the birds.
Hope your wife is managing okay with her sciatica. Cheers from Dools

Today I went to the gym. It has been quite a while since I have been there. I went on the cross trainer for just over 30 minutes. It was a bit challenging wearing a mask whilst on that. Bit harder to breathe properly or something. Sooo glad I worked out on it though. I think I do generally feel better during and after a cardio session. I listened to some encouraging music that makes me what to dance. So that helps me to keep going.
I also used the assisted weights. Bicept curl and another one for arms.

Hi all,
I agree about the dogs having a great time at the beach Mrs D. I too like watching them. They seem to enjoy the simple things. Just jumping in the waves. Digging in the sand. And bolting around the place saying hello to other dogs.
It's great you have some dogs David "n" goliath. They can just make ones life more richer. And can help us get out in the fresh air and walk.
That does sound lovely that sitting next to a tree listening to birds chirp away.

Hi all,
No second walk yet, it’s raining! As for Ted(dog), he’s terrible around other dogs his size or bigger. He wants to kill ‘me! So embarrassing! So when we can walk a bit further, I’ve got a spot in mind that’s not frequented much on weekdays.
Just for good measure, hubby fell down about 6 concrete steps yesterday! He’s a bit bruised & battered so I’ll be keeping a close eye on him. This getting old business is not all it’s cracked up to be!
Cheers for now, T.
