Hey to anyone reading this.
Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.
OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.
So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......
I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Hi Topsy,
Oh dear, I do so hope your husband is okay. It can take a couple of days for injuries to show themselves. Falling down can happen so easily!
Hope yo do manage a walk with your dog somewhere you can all cope with.
Hi Shelley,
I am off for an early morning walk with my sister before work. I will pack a thermos of tea as well. I'm going to take some photos so I can remember the walk and all we have seen.
Quick message for this morning. Cheers to you all from Dools

Good Morning Topsy, cute name for your dog "Ted". I like it. What sort of dog is he?
I am sorry about your hubby falling. Is he ok today?
Hope you really enjoy the walk in the "infrequent" spot, when you get the opportunity to go there. Will your dog just run around there.

Hi
Just arrived home from walking on Breakwall Path. I walked in the rain this time. Glad I went out.
The ocean was pretty choppy with high waves. And I could see a fine mist of water that the wind was blowing. Especially around the rocks. There were a couple of surfers. Not sure if they could ride any waves though.... Maybe
As I was nearing the end of the wall, I could see a few waves splashing over it ahead of me. So I didn't walk right to the very end.

Hello Everyone,
Yesterday's walk with my sister was lovely. We wandered around in a conservation park, it was so beautifully green after such a long dry spell here. We saw kangaroos, heard different birds and could have taken hundreds of photos, only time was limited as I had to get to work!
We then went to a look out and had some morning tea while having a spectacular view of mist in the valley below and little town dotted around. The sun was shining and helped to thaw us out as it had been 0 degrees when we started our walk.
It would be a lovely way to start each working day!
Hope you all have a good day. I am off to Church then to work. Not sure I have time for a walk today! I don't go for walk is the evening when it is dark. Being in a small town there is little lighting and the highways are busy with trucks so don't feel safe to walk along either.
Cheers all from Dools

You work in a doctors surgery, is that right Mrs D?
And was it the same conservation Park that you walked in last time. It does sound lovely.

The walk on Breakwall Path was good. We also walked up Lighthouse Hill and looked out at the view below us.
When we first arrived we noticed how choppy and big the waves were. So rough that the red surf lifesaving flag was out. So yeah no swimming in the ocean today.
As we neared the end of the breakwall, very large waves were splashing over. Right over Comfy Rock as well. Even the walk out there we could feel sprays of water from the crashing waves on the rocks.
Glad I walk out.

Hi Shelley and greetings to all reading,
Your walk sounds very invigorating, thanks for sharing the details with us. I love it when the waves are crashing in. Makes me feel so alive.
Shelley I don't work in a Drs office, but do work in the health care industry. I don't want to sound secretive, but I don't like to offer too much information on the forum, concerned someone will join the dots. (I'm sending you a smiley face here I would like to share more but also like to me a bit anonymous)
My sister and I walked in a different conservation park. We are fortunate to have a few in the region, some an hour's drive away but worth it.
There is also a walking trail that goes for a couple of hundred kilometres that we have wandered along in various places. Sometimes it is hard to find the actual track!
Other times I drive to the start of a dirt road, walk for half an hour, turn around and come back again to my car.
Not sure where I will walk today, looks like it is trying to rain so I will need my rain jacket.
Hope you have a good day Shelley and cheers to all from Dools

Hi everyone,
Walk #2 happened today. We went just a teeny, tiny bit further. Honestly you’d all laugh if you could see how short our walk is. My husband used to be into sport in his youth, me - never. So it’s a drastic change, but it is lovely to be out in the fresh air.
We are planning more ambles during the week, but hubby has just gleefully told me it’s forecast to pour rain for the rest of the week!
Hubby's legs & arms are all bruised from his fall. He’s on blood thinners so any minor bumps make him black & blue but these bruises are spectacular. His hips are sore too. But really he doesn’t seem to be much impeded- touch wood.
Ted hasn’t come with us on our walks yet. We’ll build up our stamina before we take him. Ted was already named when we got him at 3 months. He’s a darling boy. He’s supposed to be jack russell x poodle. Our vet assures us he’s 95% kelpie though. He has a beautiful orange/tan coat which he sheds everyday of the year. I swear I could spin it & knit a jumper with it!
Anyway, that’s our news for today. Happy walking everyone, T.
