*Trigger warning* Eating for Health and Wellness

I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.

Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )

I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.

So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

Shelley, you make so much sense, about the bad bacteria. We do the bulk of our shopping at Aldi so prices, products are cheaper.
I’m trying porridge in the morning, cutting out my sugar and only a few pieces of fruit.Like everything it’s one day at a time.My stepfather would eat 10 wheat bix for breakfast, was fit as a mountain goat until struck down by that cruel disease Covid at 85 . I do a walk daily, used to excercise lots but all undone by bad eating. Hopefully small changes

This thread is great and so helpful . I will have to remember to kill those bad bacteria.

Hi Grandy,

Yeah about the corriander. Does it grow really well where you are. I would love to grow it at my place.

Pumpkin is really yummy at the moment. How did your pumpkin soup turn out? I had a couple of pieces of roasted pumpkin... I think yesterday.

I think it was MM that made a recipe with weetbix in it. A chocolate slice or something.

Hello Shelly,

I am growing the coriander in a large pot, which I have on my front veranda...I did have it in the ground unsuccessfully..so I now grow most of the more delicate herbs in pots...and have placed them in a place to get the morning sun.....

The soup turned out really yummy.... I made enough for a few nights...so I froze meal size portions...for when I’m lazy to cook....I try to cook most Saturdays in winter, meals that I can freeze for through the week, mostly casseroles, curries and soups...nice comfort and warming meals...

I love roasted pumpkins, just slightly burnt on the outside...soft and mushy on the inside....my youngest son, slices them like chips and deep fries the same way as chips...I do like them that way as well...

I have had a craving for poached eggs the last couple of days...I think tonight I’ll give in to that craving and have a couple on top of some hot buttered toast....

Hope everyone’s day is good...,stay warm and cosy as you can...

Hugs everyone...🤗

Grandy..

Good idea to freeze portions of soup. Roast pumpkin is so very yummy.

Ah OK you grow your corriander in a pot. I believe I will do that too . I bought a corriander plant, so now I need to transplant it into a bigger pot. I really like using fresh coriander. I used it last night in a curry.

Think consuming corriander helps remove toxic metals from the human body as well. But I am going to do further research on that.

Hello Shelly...

You are right..not only does coriander remove toxins but it also boost our immune system, helps lower the bad cholesterol and some other things as well...

I like the flavour of coriander and when I walk past the pot, I pick a small stem and just eat it...I do the same with my mint, parsley, basil and dill....I’m wanting to add a few more herbs next spring/summer....much nicer to grow our own...and I think more healthier and more tastier as well...

I hope your doing okay dear Shelly....

I have been making my Chai Tea with Almond milk...I think it’s taste better then normal milk...

Take good care of you dear friend...

There’s nothing like home grown herbs, even caring for them, brushing your hand over the smell it’s all therapeutic. I’m not an orange person but have discovered blood oranger, some of our in a pot have split due to too much rain . I do try and grow a few things in our veggie patch, bock choy, kale and garlic along with a green crop.

Tai chai with almond milk, i didn’t realise you can add milk. I’ve been having mine black and it’s very strong. I’ve been watching and logging my food intake for a month. I think it was on this thread that someone said the bad bacteria disappears with good quality food. I feel better for not eating junk food. So far early days. I hope others are doing ok and I hope im not intruding

Hello Dear Airies,

No...you are not intruding at all....it’s so nice to see you here on this thread...and you are very much welcome to post here or on any thread you feel to.,

Your veggie patch sounds really good...I think that home grown veggies and fruit tastes complete different from store bought ones...I don’t like the oranges that I buy from the shop, they seem to be tasteless and watery...I have an orange tree and love the flavour of them, picked and eaten straight away...or squeezed for orange juice...

I like the idea of logging your food intake daily..,that’s a great way to keep tabs on what you’re eating...I try hard to eat healthy...but my cravings get the better of me😁..

I buy the Chai Tea in satchels from Coles...I tried the tea bags once and didn’t like them...,

I hope your day is a good day ..,

Kind thoughts and a hug...if you like hugs..

Grandy..

Brandy, Thankyou for the warm welcome, I do like hugs and hugs back if that’s ok.I like you succumb to food cravings and yesterday I gave in at the supermarket, yet again in the confectionery aisle..Not the end of the world, after all we’re not robots but I felt so full afterwards.
I’ve got raised beds for my veggie patch to make things easier and tend to overthink everything.

Im trying something new and growing a green crop in a couple of my beds, crop rotation and nutrition. We will see what happens. My partner retires shortly and hopefully we can grow more.

I hope you’re having a good day kind regards Airies

I have enjoyed browsing through the posts here . What a lot of clever people. I started a herb garden in winter, silly and most are poorly.
glad there are green thumbs here.

Ggrand sorry about the typo..fat fingers.

Quirky, herbs will grow just slowly. One of my favourite ones and I initially brought it for it’s unusual leaf is Vietnamese mint. My wife uses it a lot in her cooking. Happy gardening
