*Trigger warning* Eating for Health and Wellness

I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.

Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )

I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.

So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

Needed to get back up from the unnourishing binge the other day. Felt so awful and discouraged. So decided to go on a smoothie/juice challenge. Today was day 1. I drank 2 smoothies and 1 juice. Plus 1 small banana.

One smoothie had: cucumber, spinach, green peas, pineapple, apple, avocado.

The other had: soy milk, banana, cocoa powder, tahini, maple syrup

The juice had: carrot, beetroot, orange and ginger

hey shell - i noticed the tahini there... cute addition 🙂 it's a little bit yum, isn't it?? nice one!

Hi there Sleepy ,

Yeah it is. Took me a while to like the tahini taste. But I really like it now. Plus good source of calcium and makes things creamy.

Hope you are doing ok Sleepy.

Hi MM if you are there 🙂

Hi Shell, all,

Hope your day served you well and that you are ok.

I'm feeling really good today. Eating nutritious foods, is making me feel good and clear.

I had a packet soup in a mug at work

A coffee with milk, no sugar

Some nuts and dried fruit

Bowl of home made vegetable soup that mum made

Crispy cheese

1/2 home- made choc slice with cacao, peanut butter, crushed weetbix, manuka honey, coconut, dates, coconut oil.

I bought a tub of Isowhey choc flavoured which has some really good stuff in it including probiotics and alkaline seagreens to mix up as shakes to get maximum nutrition in not so many calories and cost.

I'm going to be going strong until the end of the month to hopefully drop 1.5kgs. Then I would have reached my weight to win my weight loss bet a month early. So that would mean a loss of 17kgs in 5 mnths or approx. 21weeks.

I'm still classed as morbidly obese so I still have a lot more to lose. I have this little voice inside me saying to do it quicker. I'm terrified of health related complications from being in the morbidly obese category. Hopefully I can drop more in a shorter space of time. I know 0.5kg-1kg/week is recommended but when you're in my category I'm sure losing more than that is fine.

You are doing super good MM.I am happy for that you are feeling better. When you say clear... it that the same as no foggy head? Totally can relate to that if it is. My head is also feeling much clearer.

Never tried manuka honey, is it a strong honey flavour? I do like raw honey. The choc slice sounds yummy. Do you chop the dates in small bits and is it melted coconut oil? . I am assuming it is. Sorry another question do you bake it?

17kg loss sounds good. I too get scared about later in life lifestyle illnesses. I see fit and healthy looking older women walking quickly. I love that and find it inspiring. I want that quality of life now and in the future.

To be honest I don't want to be motivated by the fear of illnesses any more. I don't want to feel fear. I want something else to motivate to keep going. I haven't quite worked out what.

Has the 5months gone quick to you? It seems like that to me.

I have no doubts that you will lose more weight. Determination is a strong point of yours I think MM.

Today is day 2 of the smoothie challenge. Thing is I drank 1 smoothie. The challenge that I picked to follow has 2 smoothies and 2 juices. And if you feel hungry eat 1 small banana or some avocado. There is no other food. For some reason I just didn't do it. Someone was eating soup for lunch today at my place. It just smelt warm and nice. So without thinking much, I just made a pot of vegetable and split pea soup. And ate a soup bowl of that. It could have been that that tripped me up. It was a nourishing soup that I ate. Then later after I went for a walk I ate purple grapes. Then again for dinner I ate mashed potato, fresh green beans and carrots. All nourishing but was not a smoothie.

I really wanted to detox my body just with the raw vegetable and fruits etc. So I made it 1 and 1/2 days.

I have all the vegetables and fruits in the fridge for tomorrow for smoothies. So I will just start again.

Good going MM!! We are all cheering you on. You will get the prize money easy - good on you 🙂

More importantly though you are feeling good 🙂 Your food does sound very balanced. I think it is good to spread it out through the day like you have done. Keeps the body running - like we do a car lol.

Re the morbid obese thing.. I wouldn't give any thought to it MM. Most of that stuff is pretty crap. If we went by that some of the rugby and football players would be classed as obese - yet they are so fit and run laps around ovals. It is way better to think of you as you - and see where you have come from and where you are now. Just how much better you feel, with moving about, happier etc. You are magic 🙂 you sprinkle us with your joy and inspiration. Even if it all stopped for you with weight today - you are still in a much healthier way of life than before. Obviously you are going to continue which is great too - but I hope u get what I mean. To acknowledge just how much you have accomplished. So much hard work, determination. Try keep your thoughts on that instead of the crap that is out there to make us feel bad - numbers/clothes sizes/magazine covers etc. It is everywhere. xo

Hey guys you really spur me on thanks for that! 😁😘

To answer you qtns- yes, clear head & body feels healthier, manuka honey does have a stronger taste, I chop up the dates, melted coconut oil, and non- bake. I didn't use a food processor I just crumbled the weetbix as finely as I could with my hands and mixed everything with my hands. I squished it all down in a rectangular tray and covered the top with a thin layer of melted choc with coconut oil and coconut. I love this slice and will make it again. Will prob add some roasted almonds to it. Tip- if the slice isn't moist enough U can add water. I added extra peanut and water.

Yes the almost 5 months have gone quickly....

Yeh that's right Sleepy there is so much out there to try and make us feel bad about ourselves. One thing I've really noticed is the social stigma of being a larger person...it would work for super skinny people as well. I do get looked at differently...or looked away from/ rejected.

Ive spent the majority of my life at a healthy weight and have noticed a big difference. Like I've lived in two different worlds. Getting less attention though has made me feel safer... sometimes ppl looking away is better than being gawked at, harassed, stalked and made to feel like a sex object. Pros and cons in everything.

Even Rebel Wilson said people treat her differently now that she's lost the weight.

Shell maybe you can have 2 smoothies or juices and 1 or 2 meals daily. If you're anything like me you will have a higher success rate doing it the way you want to do it and enjoy it the most.

So far today I've had 5 multi- grain wholemeal crackers with some cream cheese with apricots and almonds added to it and a Isowhey choc protein shake packed full of nutrients!!

I'm going to the gym for the first time in about 6 weeks as well...need to get this 💓 heart rate up and blood pumping!

Good luck with your health and wellness journey everyone!

Shine like the super- star you are.

Geez.....
