Tough Mudder Chronicles - Looking to Soak in Some Support

Hi All,

I very recently signed up for a Tough Mudder event in December while on a temporary high from getting some good news. Now it has become glaringly obvious that I stopped believing I can do it, mainly because I haven't slept at all well in the last 7 days, which has made me skip training, let alone the last....well there's a whole chunk of time where this has been an issue but at least before, I got up and did stuff.

I do know that I still want to do it, if only not to regret pulling out (may not be the best reason, but still is a reason I can understand - one less regret).

I suppose what I could do with is some support from the mental health support team that's around here in all of you. I already have the support system in another social network, but rather than constantly reminding me that they, or we are all team no excuses, get it done, maybe a little more sensitivity on the days where I couldn't get up, and am already hard on myself. And who knows, maybe my chronicles will help inspire also?

That's me. What do you think?

Joelle out.

Damn, 8.30, good luck! I fully support you and your effort. Remember to keep hydrated. And the ground is but a conveyor belt. Let us know how it goes.

I surprised myself! I've barely trained at all (not feeling all too great as you know), but I managed to squeeze in my best pace for a >10km run.

Ran it in 77min, or 5min 33sec/km. I was actually aiming for 90min, i.e. 6min 30sec/km.

My knees are wrecked though, aha. Tomorrow morning will be fun walking down stairs.

Hey you two!!

Meet my little duck Puddles! I'm in the pic too of course! A real little character. Not sure of the sex yet but it doesn't really matter. I haven't done much dedicated walking but have been walking around the garden a lot. See the Podiatrist next week for a fitting. See a new GP for pain today. A sports Dr of all things, but the Physio assures me he understands all the muscle pain stuff so perhaps he can help out with the aches and pains.

Good luck to you both.

Hey pet, you've changed your picture but i did catch little puddles on your shoulder. Very cute 🙂

Is this the knee and shin pains you get? What'd they say?

Hey James and Pet,

It has been a while....I have finished my exam and studies for a while so back to focusing on Tough Mudder, amd making my insane (or inane) training plan as we speak. How is the walking going Pet? And James, were you able to go for that run today?

Okay; Day 1 (Again):

Wasn't organized, so had enough to do 60% of the distance I wanted to cover, so 6 km out of 10, but I know for Thursday how much time I will need. I got light headed at the end of it, so need to take electrolytes before as well as after I think, and my hands are swollen now 😕 Knee isn't too bad at least. Day 1 of exercise is complete, now to eat well.

Hope you two are okay, I'll just blather away until I hear from you.

Take care

So I did my 20km on Saturday morning. Bit rough on the knees and i started getting a little bit of pain in my foot, but it was okay in the end.

Knees now are still sore, but better.

Hoping to do a 3km either tomorrow or the day after, depending on how my knees feel. The goal is to do 3x3km by/including next saturday, then a 7km on Sunday.

Your hands are swollen? Thats strange. Is that from overheating?

20km. What an achievement. Colour me impressed. Have you been keeping up with your goal? I haven't...So, I'm four days behind on the training plan. Going to Sri Lanka so will be doing some trail runs adjacent to actual greenery and natural lakes. And not at 3 am so there will be sunlight.

I'm not sure about my hands to be honest...could be. I have had problems with my fingers since I was 14 so I don't know if it was just a flare up. maybe I should move them when I run, from time to time.

I won't have internet, I don't think when in Lanka, so I'll be off for a week, but hopefully my spirits will have been lifted to tell you all about my training in the mud and running. Until I leave, I will be on here, so will still reply. Leaving here in approximately 7 hours.
