We can do it BBers, we can do self-care.
Sleepy21 pointed out research that shows self-care REALLY helps!
Please share what you do for self-care so we can get inspiration, ideas and motivation to do it too.
Best wishes
EM

Hi ER, your self-cares are so wonderful. Things really seem to be looking up for you.
[LRC purrs loudly, while having a little gentle play-fight with GFC.]
Today I have mentioned a couple things of concern about how thorough my home help worker to ther. I don't feel comfortable doing these things, but when I do have cause to bring things which I need her to do to her attention, I have to make the effort anyway, or the work won't get done to a reasonably good standard.
I got through doing my online food shopping, which was made more difficult because their website has been 'upgraded'. It got really frustrating. I had to take a break while my home helper was here, & made my lunch, late, but I did that too. I didn't wait for her to leave, which I would usually do if I haven't already prepared my lunch beforehand.
I am hapy to say, while making my lunch, I wasn't nearly so self-conscious as I usually am about doing things with others able to look on. Yay, me!
Yay you, & everyone!
Hugzies

mmMekitty, not good to hear about the struggles you've been having with your support worker and the food shopping website, but glad to hear you're feeling better about people looking on while you're doing something.
My self-care:
- Went to a couple of events for friends' and family's birthdays
- Went on Beyond Blue hehe
- Treated myself to a few little desserts

MK, well done for communicating those things to the home help worker even though it was challenging. I’m glad you got through the online shopping with the upgrade. And, yes, yay you for being much less self-conscious doing things with someone there. I can relate to that and have noticed myself getting better with such things too. I’d feel uncomfortable in the past with someone watching my activities. It’s a nice feeling to be more at ease with such things.
SB, I’m glad you had those social catch-ups and you got to eat yummy desserts 🍨 🧁 😋
My self-cares today:
1. Let myself sleep in. I seemed to need it this morning and I just let myself relax and gradually got up when I was ready.
2. Listened to a calming song that put me in a peaceful place.
3. Went to my favourite rocky hill by the ocean and enjoyed the sunset.

Hi all,
Lost track of the thread again (surprise, surprise), but I get the gist you're all doing some really good - and in some cases quite challenging - self care. Great work, as always. ER, your self cares often mirror stuff I like to do for myself.
Here are mine:
- Started taking showers with just my little LED candles on instead of the main light. I haven't really thought of myself as particularly light sensitive, but one day the bathroom light blew and I was too tired from a day out to change it & showered with the candles on. Found my mood and energy a lot better than when I have the main light on, so I've taken the lesson and run with it.
- Played D&D with hubby and our friends. Made a really silly character I've wanted to play as for a while and it was great fun.
- Continued working with my naturopath to improve my energy and overall health. Seeing slow but significant change. I've even lost a bit of weight and feel more comfy in my clothes again after gaining a bit more than I'd have liked throughout the last year of turmoil and the bad habits it brought into my life.
Kind thoughts to everyone,
Blue.

Those are such lovely self cares Blue. I love the idea of the LED candles. I too prefer lamps, candles etc to overhead light. I have two lights with dimmer switches on the wall in the loungeroom which I nearly always use in preference to the overhead light. The D & D sounds a lot of fun and I’m so glad you’re getting benefit from the naturopath.
My self cares today were:
1. Did volunteer work and felt I made a helpful contribution.
2. Went for an adventurous walk and found amazing old growth forest trees in a kind of ravine!
3. Put through a load of washing and put clean sheets on my bed. It’s a nice feeling having fresh, clean sheets.

Well done, everyone.
Today, I had an early shower, which made me feel fresh & more ready to face the day.
I added a little pasta & pesto to my salad, which I took with me for lunch today, to have in a park near where I am going for exercise with a group, (then lunch), then using the gym equipment after with the help of .my support worker.
After that, I asked her to stop off at Woolies near my place so I could get the things Coles failed to deliver to me last Sunday - plus. I bought some chocolate chip hot cross buns, knowing full well they are something I want as opposed to something I need, & with the understanding that is all I'm doing for Easter. I[ve put four of them into my freezer, so no eating them all in one day!

That sounds like a lovely and successful day MK. The pesto and pasta edition to the salad sounds like a great way of making the salad extra tasty and more sustaining. Enjoy the hot cross buns when you eat them. Choc chip ones are extra yummy!
For me today:
1. Realised I just can’t get my smoke alarm open to replace the battery and will have to ask a neighbour for help tomorrow. That’s better than falling off the ladder as I grapple with it.
2. Got some sushi for lunch and stopped at a lake on the way home that is a peaceful spot.
3. Sat in my backyard just after sunset and noticed the beautiful, deep glow in the sky - kind of mauve, orange and gold.

Hi all,
Thanks, ER. I use lamps a lot in general, too. I like it bright in the daytime, but it's low light at night or if I'm having a bad sensory day like I have been today. Love the nature time you've been having, your descriptions really do invoke the atmosphere. 🙂 mmMekitty, I have to do in-between shops to get stuff that doesn't turn up in my online shops, too. It's very frustrating. Glad you got something to enjoy (and had the discipline to save some for later). Great balance of priorities.
Mine for today:
- Attended a physio appointment, as my back and shoulder have been sore as.
- Asked the physio to pause his music during my appointment, which he did quite graciously.
- Minimised light and sound as much as I could and let myself stim when I hit sensory overload. Today was really, really hard.
Kind thoughts,
Blue.

It’s great you asked for what you needed with the physio Blue. I’m glad he responded graciously. I hope you have some better days ahead with sensory processing.
For me today:
1. Went to my favourite ocean place and cried out a whole lot of grief while the sun was setting. It was good to let stuff go and I can feel my body being glad for it, even though it hurts to go through that at the time.
2. Before the big cry I went to the rock pool I love and put my feet in the water. Little fish swam up as if to say, “who are you, giant being?” before swimming away again. Plenty of crabs as usual too. If I’m still for a while they come out of crevices in the rocks and start feeding. They are great characters.
3. Solved a home maintenance problem through a combination of internet research and calling a tradesperson who was very helpful over the phone.

Eagle Ray, being in nature can be very therapeutic, that's such a sweet and calming way to express your emotions.
My self-care:
- Playing Dungeons and Dragons with my friends
- Drinking peach iced tea at work
- Taking a little rest before heading out again
