Hi, this is my first post, though I have been reading the forums for some weeks. I’m probably expressing myself badly when I say that I have found reading about other people’s journeys reassuring. Finding a community of people who “get it” even when they have a wide variety of experiences and lives lived is not something I thought I would ever find.
Though people talk about getting well & there is a section Staying Well, I’m curious as to what this actually means to other people and how they manage their expectations. I noticed some people refer to being well as ‘being like themselves before they got ill’, whilst others don’t express an exact aim.
My idea of being well has changed over the years. I was first diagnosed as an 8 year old child back in the late sixties. The doctors told Mum that the voices in my head & the sudden crying bouts were because I suffered from ‘nerves’ & I was given meds to calm me. Of course such things were not discussed back then & I was told not to talk about it to anyone, not my school friends nor siblings, just Mum. For decades after my idea of being well simply meant being able to hide my illness from others.
A number of events in
my life caused my illness to worsen, until some years ago I became so ill I
needed to be hospitalised for my own safety. This lead to my current diagnosis
of Major Depression, Anxiety & PTSD. I’m no longer in that dark place, but each
day is still a battle (though I can now believe in a future). For now only my
siblings & one friend know about my illness, though some things they still
don’t know.
So, what does ‘being well’ mean to me, it is ever moving
goalposts. If you had asked me 5 years
ago would I be as well as I am now I would have thought it impossible as I
couldn’t envision a future. If you had asked me last week (during one of my
down periods) I would have said my progress was all an illusion & I was
fooling myself that things can get better.
For now my idea of being well is being able to believe that
things can change for the better, that I will one day be able to manage the
everyday things like housework, caring for myself & caring for my dog &
maybe, just maybe I will even be able to enjoy myself.

post by writing on a word doc & then paste it.

Hello mmMekitty,
Yes that is Woofa.... it is his birthday picture
Ummm yes you can play with him if you are very quick on your paws... Woofaa has a habit of trying to say hello to other animals by wacking them with his paw... & it is a big paw... it might be safer if you play the way the neighbours cows do... chasey along the fence line with the fence between for safety 😁

Hey Paws! HAPPY BIRTHDAY WOOFA big fella! What a gorgeous boy.
Hey everyone, wonderful collaboration of pet lovers lol.
How's things?
Rescue poodle is being as precious as always lol, sitting beside me on the balcony where it's FREEZING COLD, being all sad bec all the kids are out / at work. He's decided he hates his puffer jacket and runs away when he sees it lol! He much prefers the cotton pyjama suit the girls bought him, heaven help me.
He's learning from my d's rescue border collie NOT to chase the chickens but ONLY chase the Brush Turkeys, we're getting somewhere finally. No matter what he hates our cat and possums.
Love to you all

Hello Em,
Welcome back lass...
It sounds like rescue poodle is a lot brighter than Woofa if he is learning not to chase chickens.... though sitting out on a freezing cold verandah is not so bright... 🙄I hope you were doing some type of work that was keeping you warm out there...
Hugs

Woofa looks rather gorgeous Paws! What age did he turn this birthday? Did he get something special to celebrate?
Sam's enjoying his steamed broccoli, sweet potato and carrots! He's finding a soft diet isn't all that bad!

Is it just me - I feel kind of 'blinded" in these new forums - I can't see how many new people are posting for example, I have to wade through one post after another - and I don't know if people have replied to me or anyone else unless I look through their last discussions... I find it frustrating and a lot of bother... anyone else having this trouble, Paws are you?

How are you going Paws? I have seen you elsewhere I think but not here. Sam's still very tired and it's freezing cold here. I hope you managed to get your groceries and that you and Woofa are managing to keep warm!

Hello Hanna, Grandy, wave to all,
I'm wondering how much the traffic on the forums has dropped since the changes came in... it's hard to use & I'm finding it near impossible when I'm struggling...
I think Sam is so sweet loving his steamed vege's.... that must be a relief for you knowing he is willing to eat them... Woofa would turn his nose up at broccoli... so would I to be honest...
Hanna I've had a bout of gastro these last few days... I don't think I caught it from you 😁.. but who knows with modern tech 😉🙂... today was the first day I felt well enough to risk the long drive into big town...
At Woolies there was lots of fresh fruit & veg... the only empty shelves I saw were for jam (of all things) & in the tissue & toilet paper section which had very few options... the only tissues had a kids cartoon character on the box... it wasn't until I got home I saw they were being marketed as "training tissues" 🙄.. modern life gone mad.
Woofa turned 9 this birthday... I didn't buy him anything special... but he got to cuddle with my youngest nephew who visited.
Hugs

Hey Paws, wow it's that time of the year again being Woofa's birthday? HAPPY BIRTHDAY GORGEOUS!
Gosh they're gorgeous our fur babies. Rescue poodle doesn't want to take his tough boy t-shirt off! He just loves it. Doesn't like his puffer jacket at all, he runs away when he sees us grab it.
I'm in a cycle of having to get poodle regular grooming. His coat is so thick but they do his bottom glands and take out all the curly fur from his ears too. So when I did the math, it's expensive but FAR cheaper than the issues he gets and then needs the Vet and WOAH the bills then... so my kids are more motivated to collect & save Return & Earn cans for each grooming session. Doubt we'll make the cost but it helps alot.
Reckon I could make $30 / month just from the cans I see littered around car parks, so disgusting but better that I pick them up (make some money) than it being rubbish!
Hey Grandy and Hanna, so nice to see you 🙂 yes the new system has it's issues. I can't see where I can catch up with the thread I pressed Follow on?
Chickens are calling their mama lol, the feeding never ends at mine
Love EM
