Small achievement you managed to do today....How did it make you feel? Did it help you feel better today?

Hi everyone..

Their are days when just getting out of bed is a huge achievement...Other days we can achieve things like washing up the dishes or clothes, sweeping the floors, mopping the floors..very mundane and automatic robot like chores for the mentally well...They do these chores without even thinking about them...for people struggling with their mental health..these are huge tasks...

Very often I’ll get my vacuum cleaner out to vacuum ...then it will sit their for days, me looking at it, walking over it...until I can get motivated enough to vacuum..after I do find the motivation to vacuum...I am pleased with myself...
Right now I have a small foot cycling peddle machine, sitting on my front veranda..I got it out last week..to start exercising..it’s still their, I’m still looking at it...My thoughts each night is I’ll use it for a few minutes tomorrow..

My car hasn’t been washed getting close to a year now I think...Today I did managed to wash it....and discovered that it has a nice shine on it.....I did it...I achieved something positive today..which made me feel better in myself...

Have you achieved a little something today...and how did it make you feel...If you want to share that achievement it might make other people a bit more motivated to achieve something they need/want to do..

Looking forward to hearing about your achievement....and how it made you feel..

Little steps and achievements can lead to bigger steps..and bigger achievements...

My kindest and most caring thoughts...everyone.

I resisted the attempt to start an argument by just smiling and walking away.

thanks grandy and Tayla. I like this thread because it makes me think of a small positive rattan dwelling on mistakes. Thanks everyone who reads and posts.

When I asked the physio today to show me again, how to do the massage of my lymph nodes in my armpit, & she asked me to show her what I had been doing. Although I felt embarrassed, I managed to show her. Then she showed me againhow to do it, explaining more carefully what to do, & not to use the moisturising cream while massaging...I feel I can do that better now. 😸

Sometimes it is still so hard to ask for what I need, to have to show her, too, so she could see what she needed to explain more carefully - I needed to, but felt so reluctant. I still feel apprehension, expecting to be made to feel stupid, as if I ought to know without needing to ask, so that I need to ask is somehow something to ridicule.

I get the same uncomfortable feeling when I have to talk to people in person or on the phone, if I have to work out what questions to ask, so the questions are not 'dumb' questions.

I get flustered when I get answering machines. I very often forget to say who I am both when I leave a message, & when I call. I'm thinking to the information I need to say or the questions I need to ask, & forget the introduction. So when I remember, it's a little win, & earns a little grin. 😸

Well done everyone, for getting through any business calls!

Hello Mekitty,

I'm a firm believer no question is a 'dumb' question... if we don't ask questions we never learn... everyone takes in new information in different ways & at different speeds... when I used to train co workers in new roles I always stressed I would rather they asked me multiple times if they weren't sure... as it meant either I was going through things too fast for them to take in... or I needed to adjust how I was teaching to suit how that particular person took in new things... or maybe because I was so familiar with the task I had missed telling them a particular bit because to me it was self evident...

Always remember if you need to ask questions it's because the other person hasn't taken the time to explain things properly & ensure you have clearly understood everything... that includes checking back with you to ensure that what they told you has stuck.

Thank you, Paws. You have achieved something today: your post has helped me, given me another perspective. I'd like to copy your words & read them over & over, just to help them to sink in.... 😺 so I might remember this way of looking at the times when I feel I'm either about to ask what I think might be a 'dumb' question or when I think someone will think my question, or anyone's question is.

After all, in every instance when we have learned something, even the apparently smallest things we no longer even think about before doing, we had, at one point known nothing & had to learn the most basic things for the FIRST time.

Wonder why we forget that we have had to learn so much from the day we were born (or before?)

We do achieve thousands & thousands of things through out our lives, most I wonder if are related to learning a new skill, all the steps to learn them, to learning a new way of thinking about ourselves & our world, & our place in it.

Thanks again, Paws. 😺

Every small achievement should be celebrated! One step at a time. I'm proud of you!

I'm also proud of everyone here on this thread!! I feel like we don't hear it often enough but there is so much support here it's beautiful to see

Hello everyone..,

Thank you all for your positive and inspiring posts...

I didn’t really do much today...stayed in bed until I received a msg that my support worker was on her way to do a home visit...

Then I got up closed all the doors to each room....washed up a few coffee mugs...then got out of my comfy pyjamas into some day clothes....after she left I watered some pot plants, then locked my front door and went back to my bed..

I had a bit of ''fun' doing online shoppping again... it is so frustrating to try to buy things I might like when the information about product ingredients just isn't listed. Sure, they might put up pretty pictures of every side of a box or both of a bag, but no matter how I zoom, I cannot read these.

Oh, I was tempted to try an ice tea, which had no added sugar. There was even a list of ingredients, but the sweeteners were listed as two numbers - which means nothing to me.

But I did get my shopping done. Even remembered the baking paper this time! 😺 So I will be baking again, soon. Making nice smells of baking in my flat, (as wll as more mess). I find I do enjoy the making of these foods. I know, it is not hassle free, under even the best of circumstances, for me. I lose things often, cant find them, even knowing they are one the counter, I'm often in pain, & I get really grumpy with these things, & impatient, & risk injury... but oh, the smell & (when things work) the taste! Still warm & fresh! 😺/😹/😻! So9 what if I get half a dozen hairs in it!

Love the concept of this thread, and it's super inspiring reading through everyone's small but meaningful achievements.

I've been feeling quite low recently, taking some time today to read through the Beyond Blue forums and reply to people has actually been quite therapeutic for me today, as it's given me a chance to disconnect from my life for a little while and focus on helping others. 🙂

Hi Grandy, SBella & all

I am realising how muany of the 'mmall achievements' I overlook, disregard as achievements at all, or minimise down to insignificance.

Being consciously aware of this way I have of underappreciating what I can do is a 'small achievement' in itself.

(If I haven't said before, tank you, Grandy, for this thread.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

mmMekitty 😺 Off to make meatballs - hope they don't fall apart, or I may as well have left the mince as mince!
