Hi everyone!
Just thought that I would share my personal experience and what helped me to process my emotions and symptoms which i have found to be very effective for me. Of course everyone is different and what worked for me may not work for everyone, but just thought that i would share in case anyone needs it!
i have been boxing for 4 years now. i started to box due to the intense emotions that i was feeling and felt lost as to where i can release them. it started out as a simple way for me to get through the day but as i kept on going, i found it to be exceptionally helpful in managing intense emotions like anger. i also bonded with people and found a great community as an added bonus. The combination of being active, having a place to channel my emotions, and having a great support system really helped me for years which is why i continue doing it!
i have also found that going to the gym and having a regular routine for it really helped me in being more active and getting things out of my head. it has been my coping mechanism for years now and has allowed me to feel better when i feel like things are getting out of hand.
despite the success both exercises have given me, i still had days where i felt like everything was too much and this is completely okay! what matters is the effort you put in to engaging in self-care.
i hope this was useful for anyone who might need it 🙂

Hi sashamentalhealth,
Thanks so much for sharing! Exercise is a great way to manage one's mental health. My psychiatrist highly recommends it for my depression. He advises me to do around 20 minutes of aerobic exercise 2 - 3 times a week which is what the evidence backs. Please feel free to share other self care tips. 🙂

Hi sashamentalheal…
Thank you so much for sharing what has worked for you. I have considered boxing several times to manage unexpressed anger and process some trauma stuff. What has stopped me is a ligament injury to my right arm from 3 and a half years ago that I’m not sure would hold up to boxing. But I can sense how therapeutic boxing would be.
I have belonged to a gym several times in the past and got great benefit. I’ve been a bit limited to do it lately because of fatigue related to a medical condition. But what I’ve been doing instead is going out with my telephoto lens and doing wildlife photography. I still get some exercise and it really focuses my brain in a primal way immersed in nature. I find it really helpful for my cognition and coordination, both which are affected by the medical condition I have. I feel like I’m a hunter in the wild as it uses all my senses as I observe what’s around me. But I’m not actually capturing anything other than photos. I actually chat with the birds and animals I meet along the way and feel part of their world and the environment I’m in.
I agree, there are still those days when things are too much. But it’s so good to have these go-to strategies. Thanks again for sharing 🙏
