I was just searching for an old thread here about how pets help us with mental illness/health and it seems to be gone, so I thought I'd start another one.
As some of you know already, I have a black cat named Buddy and he's my life, basically. I have no friends or contact with family currently, so he's it. Knowing he's around is a great comfort and during bad periods he's generally the only thing that gets me out of bed.
So, go ahead and share anything about your pets and make us all smile.

Hi MsPurple
Yes, our vet did mention different medications but it's challenging because Scout weighs just 2 kilos. Most meds you need to be at least 3. Could go off label but hoping the medicated baths and conditioners will work.
Glad your dogs are better today 🙂

Helium. I hate it when possums or other fests decide to taker residence in the roof. We had a rat infestion in our rental house roof a few years back. Because we had dogs they couldn't use bate incase our some fell outside and the dogs ate it. They used a wire that had something in it to kill them. apparently there was so many. So gross
Summer Rose lucky he doesn't need the allergy tablets anymore. I think it was seasonal, but it can be stressful when your dog needs to go to the vet and it is expensive. This is why I don't have a pet of my own. Mum got me the dog 11 years ago knowing I'd go to uni and she'd have him. But I just couldn't have a dog of my own until I had my own place and was settled. Will just claim the family dogs as my own

Hi MsPurple
Yous is a familiar story ...
Our long time family dog died when my daughter was 16 and very unwell with OCD. My girl desperately needed another, so Scout came into our family.
My daughter would likely tell you Scout is her dog. We both claim to be mum and the dog is spoiled rotten! But, like you, my daughter is at uni and looking to move into a share house, so Scout will remain with me. I think it's a great arrangement.
Baths seem to be working and Scout is no longer itchy and back to her normal self 🙂

Took jesse to see the water buffalo today. They were realy chilled even when jesse warning barked at them. I didnt want to get to close to the llama fence cause i dont know how far they can spit! Jesse found one of those hotdog things on a stick. I managed to get most the stick out of him.

Hi Helium - if you don't mind me asking, where did you take Jesse to see water buffalo? I am intrigued!
Paddyanne - Pixie sounds like a little cutie. It is amazing to hear about all of these different personalities that our pets have.
I have had an unwanted new pet hanging around my property this past month . . . a fox has been visiting during the day time when my ducks are foraging in the garden. So far the fox hasn't gotten any of the ducks but we have been vigilently supervising the ducks during the daytime when they are out of their enclosure. I cannot believe this fox has been visiting during the day time - foxes are meant to be nocturnal, aren't they? We have a humane fox trap set up outside but so far the fox has only been taking the meat that we put out for bait and managing to not set off the floor plate to close the trap door!

Hi fred4761.
Theres a cirus in town which has water buffalo, llamas., camels, and ponies.
Id love ducks again. Growing up i had pet ducks, mainly muscovies and heaps of duckling batches and bred cashmere lop rabbits. We had a border collie who wouldnt hurt any animal. Jesse however is part malamute with a high prey drive. Id love an indian runner duck. Its funny you say that about foxes in daylight cause i thought that too. There used to be foxes at the edge of a local school. One day i saw one casualy trot along the path in the middle of the day.
Paddyanne your houdini sounds adorable. I have a little black cat called milly shes nearly 14 and has bad kidney disease failure which has got bad this last week. I dont know how much longer i have with her, its breaking my heart. She was my mums cat as much as mine and having her is holding a little piece of my mum with me.
Cheers lynne

I hope that everyone's pets are continuing to bring them joy, especially with everything going on in the world.
My 14 year old dog broke one of his teeth on Sunday night (terrible timing!) and it has pushed back up into his gum and caused a bit of an abscess. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get him seen by a vet but this morning I was able to get in for an appointment. It was a bit strange as I had to call the vet when I had arrived at the clinic, then leave my baby in a secure crate out the front and return to my car where the vet called me to conduct the appointment. A vet nurse came out and brought my dog into the clinic where the vet examined him while talking to me on the phone. Once they had completed the treatment they brought my baby out to me and a vet nurse came over wearing gloves and a face mask with the eftpos machine. While the whole experience was strange it was very encouraging for me to see that the veterinary clinic are taking extra precautions to enable them to still be open and see patients. This is a huge weight off my shoulders knowing that if anything happens to any of my pets, they can still be treated. I have been more worried about something happening to my pets and not being able to get medical attention than I have been worried about getting Coronavirus! I am so grateful that we have the technology of mobile phones to enable consultations to still happen.

Nice thread, just saw it so I hope no one minds me popping in. Everyone's animals sound adorable (I love all animals).
My previous pets have unfortunately passed away so I love and miss them everyday, but currently I have an 11 year old Fox Terrier called Buddy.
