Mindfulness: What Is It? (Even if you dont know please post so we can help grow the forums accordingly)

Hi Everybody

This is only the basic dictionary definition...

"Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you're mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment without judgement"

  • Please be as blunt you wish....If you dont have an idea about mindfulness it would be great if you could let us know
  • If mindfulness hasnt worked/or is too broad a concept for you it would great if you can let us know your thoughts too
  • If mindfulness has helped you, please help others to help themselves by posting how you have embraced this mindset

It goes without saying that the forums are a judgement free zone and I really hope that everyone can jump in and have their say

I was busy in the garden today. i tried to be mindful but my mind would not stop chattering. Nothing too bad, just constant chatter.

I remember what that was like.....ugh!

You are a weapon for giving this a go like you did....(keeping in mind Im still learning it as well)

Even before I heard of mindfulness I used to 'lose' myself in the garden....Jeans & Weeds....radio in the background.....the thoughts do slow down even without trying or willing them to.

You will notice that when you do something like gardening your thoughts processes will be less active and eventually you will find the peace that is still there...Its like static on a car radio.....sometimes we just have to wait until we start to have some clarity after a while.

I do remember the 'chatter'...It does pass though.

Thanks heaps for helping out here CMF...Keep in mind 70% of the hits to Beyond Blue are people that choose only to read the forums which is fine as they find help in what we write here

you've helped me realise I am not the only one also. I really appreciate that. It has been a tough week for me. Even though physically I feel better, the mind is still in overdrive but hey, my garden is looking better!

Had a couple of pills to allow sleep,they mostly work if I catch it quick enough before the highs get to pumped, just got outta an intermittent long down & Joy, back into one by the looks. One good & god knows we need to look for positives is I'm getting stronger, Hercules will be jealous.

Chooky above said about fidget things for distraction, I heard the other day to be careful for kids or small fingers there's a type that their little fingers have been getting stuck in. Hearing they're beneficial though which is good.

Someone else said which sounds similar to the little bits I've heard about grounding which also makes a lot of sense to, another good distraction for the overactive brains we have. (think I'm repeating but it appens)

Wanna read more comments here when my eyes decide to stay in sockets. Jeez louise I tell ya.
