Hello
My whole life i have dealt with mild mental health issues. From anxiety and depression where i have experienced traumatic events, which have made things worse.
i come in and out of my mental health issues. Over the past month or so I have been trying to meditate daily. Also i have been trying to get in touch with God also through prayer. Even though I am catholic, i dont really preach and attend service weekly, but since i have been praying, i have been thinking of the benefits of trying to persue God and the holy spirit. I think when you persue God, you are really pursuing true self and healing and being fullfilled from the inside through the Holy Spirit. I find it really similar in terms of the effects on your mind and body as mediation. You are trying to heal and be intouch with your inner fullfilled self!
Anyone want to discuss their experiences with constant meditation and the persuit of God on treating their mental health? I think it is helping me get more grounded.

I couldn't agree more.
The more I get up, go to work, come home repeat, the more I focus on the daily grind and the more I focus on the rat race of life - I loose focus on myself and my mental health. I notice when I don't take care of myself I start to feel flat and tired, my anxiety creeps up and just dont feel the best.
So I try to get out and about as much as I can and do things that help me relax and feel good and clear headed.

i went to see a new psychologist yesterday, and she is all about healing the inner self and going by your 'gut feeling'. I feel like i don't have a gut feeling on intuition like i used to when i was a bit younger. I feel battled hardened spiritually and my sens of conscience, my sense of gut feeling and intuition feels like it is dead.
How do you get back in touch with these things?

Meditation really helps. I use an app called headspace and the guy’s voice is pure magical. Or google his name Andy Puddicombe. Former buddhist monk. He has an amazing ted talk. 🧡

You tube videos are amazing.
i think my anxiety and depression is just a symptom that my body and mind is telling me that something is not aligned in my life. If i listen to my body and mind it is telling me things that are not in alignment. i.e friends, partners etc.

Hey John P,
In response to your question on how you can get back in touch with your gut feeling and intuition, what helped for me was to train my perspective. Think about it - you had these when you were young and then lost it because the world just wore you down to a point where all these felt dead. I guess the way forward would be to immerse yourself in the world of spirituality, watch YouTube lectures and read related books. Once you start seeing the world through the lens of spirituality rather than only through rationality and routine, you'll feel less like the spiritual side of you is dead.
Cheers,
M

Hi John P,
I also feel as though I was out of touch with my gut feeling and intuition but through practice and time I think I am slowly starting to get better/used to it! The others mentioned great resources like apps and youtube videos. Youtube videos personally have been working for me. I also use new opportunities or scenarios that happen in life as chances for me to reflect and think about my gut feeling during those instances.

is it actually possible to change you inner experience?? From one of chaos to control and feeling.
is this common in connection with metal health?? I find it hard smell. I cannot feel the scariness and unknown of the dark at night. I find it hard to feel the cold. I find it hard to experience the feeling of it raining outside. I feel it hard to see dirt in my house- i.e dirty dishes, dirty floors!
Are these all symptoms of mental health issues?
Thank you

Hi John P.
I'm not religious, and I haven't tried meditation yet, but I hope it works for you and others.

What sort of apps/ YouTube videos/channels, etc, would you recommend for someone completely new to meditation??
Never ever tried it myself to be honest, so no clue what's good and what's not...
counselling so far has been of very little benefit to me really...my feelings confirmed from a pretty bad first session back, since xmas
Any suggestions appreciated 😊😊

hi Jack2021,
For meditation apps.... I can only speak for myself and some others in my family. The selection can be somewhat subjective based on the type of voice you prefer, male vs female, accent, etc. I like "virtual hope box" and 2nd is "smiling mind". My dad however had some issues with voices in these and preferred headspace. Last one is relax melodies. Try some of those out and see if they work for you?
