Thanks Paul I know she is unlikely to have long term consequences. She tried to call me at 4.30am but i only realised now. Tried calling but no reply. I am just worried abiut how she's feeling being stuck in her room. She shares a house so she can't even go to the kitchen if her housemates are home. She works in healthcare so she her clients are very vulnerable. She's seen first hand the effects of the mismanagement of the pandemic so her current situation confirms the issues.

Hi Elizabeth

No worries at all and thankyou for your reply!

I hope you have heard from your daughter since the last post above. I am sure (like you are) that she is doing well...It would be hard work to have a daughter overseas in an area with high levels of Covid-19...It is a bonus to see that new cases have decreased in the UK on the 23 (Monday)

my kind thoughts

Paul

I have spoken to her. She said she was getting better but would be glad to be free to leave her room and live normally. The only positive is she should be immune for a while but still has to live with the restrictions & uncertainty living there

Hi Elizabeth

Thats good news! I mentioned above 'It would be hard work to have a daughter overseas in an area with high levels of Covid-19'

Just trying to empathize with your situation Elizabeth

Its good news to see that new cases have dropped a lot in the UK recently!

Hello,

i hope everyone here’s doing much better now that borders are mostly opened up just before the holiday season. 🙂 and I’m super happy melbs is covid free. I can’t wait to visit melb soon.

I’m just wondering if there are people out here still struggling? And how y’all coping?i managed to stay the same but now I’m getting worse. I’m struggling to live through a day without crying. I really want international borders to open up (and no, it’s not a holiday). I don’t know how much longer i can take this anymore.

Hey Bananie1234

Thanks for the post and good to see you again!

Even though Victoria is Covid free, there seems to be an adjustment phase here after so long in lockdown

I suppose you can call it 'Post Lockdown Jitters' I know we are receiving international flights now Bananie..

What if we want to book an international flight? Im just asking as I have no idea what the current status is

I hope you can post back when convenient

my kindest...Paul

most of this is written for aussie citizens/permanent residents rules are different if you'e a temporary visa holder but currently almost all international flights are banned and you need an exemption from the department of home affairs. and even then you're only allowed if its Essential travel. if we are assuming everything is very lucky very nice you might be able to travel to nz or a few asian countries early next year? idk australia and nz were really keen on their travel bubble in the middle of the year because nz was heading to almost 100 days of covid elimination and australia was looking to quash it but then the auckland cluster and Melbourne happened. so that's not something easy to predict. i don't expect europe or the americas to relatively be on the table until late '21-22 though im not very generous with these estimates

there's probably going to be a 9/11-scale shakeup. presenting symptom or quarantine logs with your papers or temperature checking or asking for mask use or allowing a lot less movement on the planes. qantas' looking to require all international travellers get a covid jab if they want to fly in the future (btw having to get vaxxed to fly is no new thing - most south american/african countries require yellow fever certificates for example) though other airlines haven't shared their plans. i can't tell if i'd imagine airlines following suit as a form of insurance or not enforcing to be more welcoming but kind of useless to predict on something that won't happen in months, ey

Hi eight!

thanks heaps for helping out with your advice. I didnt know our international travel regulations were so restricted

So...we are accepting international flights into OZ...yet we cant fly out unless our trip is deemed essential?

appreciate your help eight...Nice1

Paul

I was a bit iffy about the vaccination but if that’s all it takes for me to travel freely, I’ll do it. I’m desperate and I can’t take this anymore.
I’m not an Australian citizen but my life and reputation is built here. I’m torn between dropping everything and move in with my parents (and have no income) or hold it out until i can get the vaccination so i can travel freely. I’m a healthcare professional so ill most likely be one of the first people to get jabbed.

Leaving is not a problem, coming back is the problem. And i surely won’t be welcomed back, people are not very nice to oversea travellers here in australia even if you’re in quarantine. I follow qld/nsw health and smart travellers etc, people on comment sections are nasty towards their fellow Australians returning home. If we have to wait for zero cases for the rest of the world before we open up, we may as well stay isolated forever. No point talking to people about it as majority of them are happy with it. I really hope the vaccination went well in the UK, so I’ll have more confidence in this rushed vaccine.

Hi Bananie1234 and a wave to others

I read back and a bit and thank eight also for the comments.

Bananie it's a very difficult situation.
I'm glad you have some faith in the vaccinations being developed.
I don't.

Regardless of the effectiveness of vaccinations, I believe they'll be mandatory to travel overseas and that being the least of it.

My fiancee is getting depressed at the thought of us not being able to see each other for years on top of almost 2y already. He's in the U.S. and an American Citizen. His work is important for the Covid "response" in North America.
His company haven't even allowed him to take all his leave a week at a time this year.
He only gets 3 weeks / year anyway atm.

So it's going to be up to me to travel to him when we can leave Australia AND come back.
I simply don't care about other people's attitudes about me.
I'm a very responsible person.
I would expect to pay whatever it costs for quarantining / following every recommendations to the letter etc and have been supremely responsible the whole way through at home.

I've worked the whole way through covid here including the shut downs, being exposed to hundreds of people in my work, if not thousands if you include all families.
All of my children have had to also.

I don't need praise or recognition for this at any time but I would also welcome being able to travel to see and stay with my fiancee.

Today he said I'd have to travel WITH him to different states while he works.
It's all going to be fraught with paperwork and extremely expensive but I'm aware of the huge loss of life, so I deem all of us still here very fortunate.

I have more available leave to take than he ever will.

If things are still awful and I can't see things improving in the states any time soon, if ever... I will probably do a salary sacrifice thing and spend more time over there later.

It's very difficult. Fiancee is deeply patriotic and can't see himself leaving his country whilst his skills are needed so much. I admire him but am also scared for his safety ofcourse. I have to trust that he can look after himself very well.

We're doing a project together which is a great distraction for us both.
It's a creative project and makes us happy to be doing this together as we can't be together in any other way right now.
