Can you list what you like about yourself?

Hello everyone! [Grinning LRC*]

Please, as a challenge or to share, I would like to invite anyone & everyone to write a list of any length you want, of what you like about yourself.

We might even have a discussion about what to include on these lists or not.

Most of all, for this Discussion, I hope, for those who find this really difficult, that reading what others like about themselves will give you some ideas of what is possible. Maybe you will find you like some of these things about yourself?

Big hugzies to everyone

Dear LRK~

You have reminded meme of a couple of things and I'm grateful.

"Perfect is the enemy of good". Single minded perfection is something I've learned to overcome. At my worst I would spend all my time trying for perfection in just one thing and left by the wayside all my other tasks undone. Now I can take a more balanced approach and normally have a rough idea when one thing is 'good enough' and move on to the next.

The other idea is that the list of things one likes about oneself is not static, but grows. As I've gotten older I've been happier, more able to cope and deal wiht my illnesses, (mental and physical). Partly practice partly change of attitude.

What else? I like the fact I can occasionally write something here htat 'clicks' and probably assists another. That ability gives me back a lot.

I like the fact I've an unbelievable amout of patience, and have endured LRKs, penguins, inebriated kiwis, Grandys and DBs all trashing my iceberg and have never massively retaliated (as they richly deserve)

Thank you for this thread, I'm learning more about myself by reading what others have to say

Croix, I find reading about others helps me learn about myself too.

So many are wreaking havoc on your iceberg 😂

Speaking of kiwis, I met one in the wild in NZ. I was all by myself in ancient forest when I heard shuffling and snuffing going on on the forest floor. There was a kiwi about 2 metres from me! I sat down and just hung out with the kiwi for a while who didn’t seem the least bit bothered by me.

I think one thing I could add to my list is my patience in just taking my time in nature. I never get bored in wild places and often have wild creature encounters because I just love connecting with the environment. Meeting a wild kiwi was a lifetime highlight for me. I’d absolutely love to meet the giant and delightful kakapo parrot, extremely rare in NZ’s south.

Dear Eagle Ray

Thank you for describing your encounter with the kiwi, it paints a delightful picture, and I can relate to quietly being still beside a wild animal, and just being almost together as it goes about its business.

Look, can I prevail upon you please to share that with others if you feel ok doing so? If you went to my thread "Store your happy memories here" and posted that account it could help more people find rest and peace in the world. This Forum has so much unhappiness that reminders of some of the better parts of life can do a lot of good.

Sadly I've neglected that thread for a while now and it would be good to get it going again wiht such a delightful picture.

And mmMekitty, happy memories of trashing my iceberg do not count! It's only for serious stuff.

Dear Croix

That’s such a nice idea for a thread. I’ve just posted my kiwi story on it. I’m off to bed now but I’ll return to that thread later to read about others’ good experiences.

My eagle ray name comes from a type of stingray I see locally here. I’m not sure if stingray’s disturb icebergs, but I’ll try and stop my alter ego from getting up to mischief underneath the iceberg!

The stingrays here are very friendly with humans, especially those cleaning fish who feed them scraps. They’ll actually nudge the legs of people who are cleaning their fish standing in the water and they then get fed by hand.

Right now I have a picture in my mind of LRC galumphing on your iceberg sending chunks into the water 😂

Eagle Ray, it's interesting to hear where your name comes from! That's adorable that your local stingrays are so friendly, that warms my heart.

Croix, your line:

"What else? I like the fact I can occasionally write something here that 'clicks' and probably assists another. That ability gives me back a lot."

So true. I love that feeling as well. Seeing people replying and engaging with our advice makes my day. That underpins my choice in career (psychology) too. Even if one person has seen the advice I've put out and it makes a positive change in their life, I've fulfilled my purpose here.

The stingrays here really are adorable SB. They will follow you as you walk next to the water, almost coming onto the beach in the hope you might have some fish scraps for them. They are intelligent, playful and so graceful how they move through the water.

It’s great to hear someone as caring as yourself has chosen the field of psychology for a career 😊

Dear SB~

I'm glad we share that ability and sense of satisfaction. doing things for others outsides ourselves is special. Very special indeed is if someone vanishes and months later comes back to say thank you. Makes me feel good for an awful long time.

I would think we also share a work ethic, which for me is not due ot a sense of duty, but becuse it gives structure ot my life.

Eagle Ray - you please keep your stinging rays under control! The last thing I want is my iceberg eaten away by finny friends  that like ice-cubes with their fish scraps:). It's bad enough LRK melting the ice toasting mmmarshmallows.

Oh, just look at that! You all, Croix, SB & ER, just look at what you can do while I'm not looking! You've managed to have a really great chat, remind me of the Store Your Happy Memories Here discussion, appreciate nature, peace & tranquility, appreciate qualities in each other, recognising the ability to be incredibly patient, even with LRC..  while admonishing LRC before LRC has even tried to post anything about redecorating Croix's iceberg, hosting parties there & all the beautiful artwork produced there, on the Store Your Happy Memories discussion, not even how much fun it was to spin it around enough to create a fortex.... (doh!) I mean, it's darn near a challenge ...

LRC [Sneakily grins] I am rather chuffed to have created a discussion which spawns more discussions. I haven't been sure I could do that.

If people would please 'support' a post every now & then, I will get a notification & then can butt into your conversations from time to time - otherwise it's hard to know... I just can't be 'following' every Discussion I want all the time - I have too many on my list as is.

mmMekitten is proud to be able to clim a tree & drop mmMarshmallows down to anyone below.

Now. because I can, I am going to throw some mmMarshmallows around here too!

Today, I can add that I like how I am becoming more able to keep the anxiety in check, as when earlier , during the thunderstorm, while I was acknowledging the wind was getting fairly strong, th the thunder loud & the rain was heavy, I was feeling my anxiety rise a little & I acknowledged that too, & said, okay, so you are a little anxious. & I felt no need to take it any further. Simply acknowledging what I was experiencing in the moment seemed to help, & I am very happy with that. I feel since doing this today, I will be able to do this again. & I like it!

[LRC left the rowboat on the shore & took off their floaties & was happy sheltering under a big umbrella tree leaf.]
