Coping with my identity

Hi everyone. I don’t really know how to feel anymore. Ever since I came out to my friends, I’ve been treated normal and regular. But I’m extremely scared to come out to my family because I know that they won’t accept me for who I am because they’re religious. I’m diagnosed with depression and anxiety and take medication, but I feel like ever since I came out this year (2020) my life’s been miserable and terrible.

Hi, welcome and Thankyou for being brave to discuss your plight.

We look up to our family members in respect and admiration...and therefore their approval is very important for us. However, there is sometimes topics that arise when we should do what is right for us and stand our ground.

Revealing your sexuality to family of faith comes with risks. You might be banished by rejection, ignored for a time or even pressured to undergo cleansing or other actions based in their faith. This is because they are rooted in their beliefs and that is unshakable.

Ince you accept those risks then reveal your sexuality regardless because suppressing it will contribute towards a mental unhealthy state.

Ir May result in a family more distant and supportive friends and family members are “true” family.

So be it. You deserve your freedom. You are you,

Hello!

I can understand how scared you must be of coming out to religious parents, for I have a family like that myself. As I haven't come out to them yet I don't have much advise for you but just know that this is a safe place, no matter what happens or what you chose to do, there are people online who understand and are here to listen and to help. Stay safe, my friend. 💛💛💛

Hi Fandom

excellent points made. This is a safe and anonymous place just for that purpose.

Well said

Hi Wasabi101346,

I completely support everything that everyone else is saying here but its super super important that you make sure its actually safe for you to come out. I know how much you must want to feel accepted and happy but if it might be dangerous to do so then that should come first. It sucks but please make sure you have at least a back up plan or something

Anyway sorry that was a bit of a downer, on a brighter note as a trans person i can personally draw happiness from the people that i know support me (your friends in this case) because knowing and acknowledging that will make everything so much easier for you!

Good luck with everything!

XO Marie
