Injury affecting mental health

Hi, mid Aug I was helping my husband cart some heavy wood & I have torn a tendon in my elbow. I went to physio for 1 session a compression bandage was put on too tight, nearly 2 months in I'm practically bed ridden, I have begun to experience panic attacks where I cry shake uncontrollably and feel very anxious, I started feeling like this when work stopped replying to my updates on my injury. I sometimes scream at the top of my lungs and get short of breath I feel so useless. My husband is supportive but after 7 weeks of him having to feed me, cook, clean do all the things I did it's difficult for him. Just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience. Thanks 👍

Hello Dear Bridgo,

A very warm welcome to the forums,

Im so sorry that you’ve waited so long for a reply, sometimes posts get pushed back in the queue in busy times…

I damaged both my shoulders together both frozen together, I had horrendous pain when ever I done the slightest movement…couldn’t turn lights on or off, couldn’t drive my car, comb my hair, I was a mess….that lasted over a few years…I live alone and had to do everything on my own….2 Cortisone shots and I’m around 95% functional in both shoulders now…

I can relate to how your feeling, your not useless sweetheart, you’re in a lot of pain and pain can impact our mental health…Panic attacks are not fun at all and I’m sorry you’re experiencing them…The best way to get through a panic attack is to distract your mind away from what your body is going through….ie:-  Grounding yourself do some deep controlled breathing, listening to music, even singing along with the words, look around you’re room, count everything in it, reading, listen to a sleep story or audio book…Hard to do these things, I know but with practice each time an attack comes, it gets easier to control…

We have a thread all about grounding ourself…if you feel up to it search “Grounding ourselves what is it and how do we” there’s a lot of ideas in the thread, hopefully something in there might help you….feel free to post on their if you want to…

How are you feeling today Dear Bridgo,?…….are you getting treatment from your  Dr?

My kindest thoughts

Grandy..
