My friend, M, is my roommate but also my friend. We usually hang out together, but after she fed a cat, things changed. Because I have an allergy to cat fur, I had told her about this issue. She promised me she would do the cleaning. However, she didn't! My nose has been stuck for over four years. Every time I saw fur on the kitchen bench, my desk, in the fridge, and so on, the fur be on the place its shouldnt I couldn't help but feel angry. I had tried to discuss it with her, but the response was like, 'Oh, my cat is so pitiful; no one likes you,' or 'I'll shave your fur, my kitty, to be bald, and there would be no fur.' Also, she put a Poopoo machine in our bathroom but only cleans it once per fortnight. I have to endure the terrible smell every time I use the bathroom. I told her about this issue, and she bought candles and a diffuser. The combination of smells was extremely disgusting.
I feel she is really selfish! But I also have to admit we have had lots of good times. Mostly when we hang out, she drives, and she has also introduced me to many new friends. I'm confused about whether I should continue this relationship

Dear Cathy_Chiew~
I"d like to welcome you here to the Forum. Allergies can be a real prblem. My partner was very allergic to cats so I can well imagine your physical reactions
I guess maybe one of the worst parts is your friend does not go out of her way to look after you, while she must feel she needs the pet, or at least an obligation to give it a home she does not frequently bathe it, clean up fur and dander, or empty the litterer often enough, but can see you suffer.
I suppose it is like many things, if you have not experienced it yourself you don't realy understand the discomfort. Plus by the sound if it she is not a tidy person placing housework as a high priority. So yes you could say she was selfish.
Still you have put up with it for four years and say yourself she is a friend, and you do have enjoyable times together. Just as well if you live in the same house. I would think if there was friction with a roommate then things would be constantly unpleasant.
I suppose it is an obvious question, have you seen an allergy specialist to see if anything can be done?
So what are your thoughts?
