Post traumatic stress disorder

I saw a new psycharatrist today. He was amazing! Got so much out of the first session. After years of being suicidal and put on different meds it was so nice to have someone understand me. It's like he had been there watching my story my whole life. I feel so relieved and hopeful that with more sessions I'll finally be free from childhood trauma.

Hello Darkdayswithsunnyskies

A Huge Welcome to the forums and my congratulations on such a wonderful and heartfelt post!

It is great that you have seen your GP....then get the referral and then seen this great health professional 🙂

I have had depression/anxiety for many years and to read your post has nearly brought tears of happiness to my eyes 🙂

It would be great if you could post back!

Well done to you...A really great effort..:-)

Hi there Sunny Skies (I prefer that abbreviation to Dark Days!). And it does sound as though you are finally reaching some sunny skies. Well done to you for persevering and finally seeing this psychiatrist who I hope, as you do, will be able to steer you through the dark days of your traumatic past and back into those sunny skies.

I also suffer from PTSD as a result of an incident 20 years ago. I have been undergoing a range of different therapies over the past 12 months. So I know from experience how important it is to come across a therapist who you feel comfortable and confident with, and who understands you and where you are coming from. You say you will be having more therapy sessions - has it been discussed what type of therapy is best for you?

Sunny Skies, I hope you will stick around the Forums for a while and contribute to other threads where you feel you are able to do so. Your positive attitude, enthusiasm and hope for the future could greatly benefit others here.

So I extend a big welcome to you, and hope to see you around some of the other threads soon. I wish you the very best for your future therapy and I am hoping that you are finally freed from your childhood trauma.

All the best to you.

Sherie xx

Welcome Ddwss;

How marvellous it must've been to find someone so helpful and insightful! Having a psychiatrist who seems to 'know' you is a major plus.

I too have PTSD from childhood and adult trauma. I didn't know what to call it until my psychiatrist diagnosed me and told me about the symptoms and associated behaviour. It was like somebody turned a light on in a really dark room.

I'm so glad you had the foresight and courage to join BB. We're here for the good days and bad, so don't hesitate to contribute either way.

Take care...Dizzy x
