Anyone had to spend days alone without anyone to talk to?

Hi all, apart from here and a brief visit to church last night (to make it feel Christmassy and to just be with people) I've had day after day for weeks now with nobody at all to talk to. This time of year especially it's really depressing. Old friends that live far away are gradually losing contact with me - I ring them but they don't ring me. I understand they're busy with their live elsewhere but still it's hard when you're lonely. I'm going to a Christmas Eve service at the local church tomorrow night to at least be with people for a little while... but otherwise all day I'm alone, just me and the dog. Sometimes I strike up a conversation on BB but then the other person disappears and that's the end of that...

How are people meant to cope with prolonged periods of social isolation? I read, I watch DVDs, normally I'd go for long walks with the dog but thick smoke from bushfires and intense hot weather have stopped that. I go to a café alone sometimes. Any ideas/help?

Hello Dear Hanna,.. Paws, mmMeKitty and all...

The veggie soup sounds really yummy...I just poached a couple of eggs tonight....

Hanna...I couldn’t travel alone in a train or any public transport...even with someone with me I don’t think I could do it....I will drive down with my 2 fur girls...I usually stop around half way....and just sit and look at the scenery...to give my fur babies a break from being constantly bouncing around on the back seat....I put both their fluffy beds on my backseat then one of those harnesses and clip them in to the seatbelt thingy...to keep them safe...I’m not sure if they enjoy being in the car, but they really do so good....when I stop at red lights etc..,they stick their heads up for a peek out the window.....

I feel kind of safe in my car, I will fill up after work on Tuesday...then Wednesday morning I will pack my car...settle my baby girls in their beds...Then in I get and lock my doors....No need to get out of my car, until I reach my destination...around 6-7 hours later...

I understand your friend trying to keep him placated...I feel so sorry for her...I do wish her the best...

Wishing and praying that both you and gorgeous Sam get well quickly....hugs and pats to you all...

Grandy..

Hi Grandy,

I admire you for being able to do that long drive on your own, it's a long tiring trip watching the traffic too... I think you're brave to do that! The traffic is often bad down the highways in this part of the world too...

It's so warm today it's like a summer day... the vet says little Sam has a gastro attack probably from something he has eaten... he gave Sam a worming tablet - and Sam promptly disgraced himself all over the floor of the vet's consulting room - ooops! He seems a bit improved today, finally.

I am meant to go to a music group tomorrow but I don't enjoy it and have put my foot down and said I am unable to attend, to get out of it - I'm a bit past saying yes to things I don't like... I feel a bit rude but I really just don't want to go...

I hope you have a good trip to see your son and that you find him improving... drive safely.. it's the other drivers that you have to watch... people are in such a hurry these days...

Hugs from us here to you oxoxoxoxoxo

Hello Hanna, wave to all,

I'm so pleased to hear Sam is a bit brighter... Woofa & I will keep everything crossed for him to be back to being his usual happy chappy self very soon.

You do seem to be getting very topsy turvy weather these past few weeks... I hope it settles down to some nice traditional Autumn weather for you soon...

How are you managing with your sore knee?... Does using your heated throw help of an evening? If it is still very sore I wonder whether trying one of the anti-inflam heat rub gels on it might give you some relief especially first thing in the morning when it might be stiff when you get up or after you have been out & about walking on it.

Hugs

Hi Paws

Do you look at your thread at all these days - I've often asked how you and Woofa are but you only ask questions to me...

Just thought I'd check if you are still using your thread.

Hello Hanna,

I'm sorry if you feel I'm ignoring your questions... I'm not meaning too... I try to keep my answers about Woofa & I on my thread so as not to clutter yours...

As I said on mine last week I'm not in a good place & so I've been trying to focus on supporting other people rather than upset myself more by posting about me

I'm truly sorry if I have upset you

Paws

Hi Paws,

You didn't upset me, I just didn't know if you missed your thread, as there was no response to me on it, only on my thread, and from here I don't know what's happening.. no worries.

I'm sorry you're not feeling great. I hope you are getting some nice sunny days like we are here, today and yesterday have been just perfect Autumn days, really lovely. Just how Autumn should be, and the leaves are turning and looking gorgeous. My favourite time of year!

I hope there is something nice happening down your way, or something nice you are reading, or music to listen to, or a good movie to watch? I have been reading some reviews of the old Muriel Spark books - I know The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (great movie!) but I don't know much about all her other books - I must look into reading more of them.

Pats to Woofa and hugs from us here oxoxoxoxoxo

I am browsing through a rather fun and interesting book from the library Paws -, by Kaz Cooke, You're doing it wrong: a history of bad and bonkers advice to women.

Some of its interesting and quite funny and very true! Do you have a library you can borrow from?

Als, I know that you like van Gogh. I've become crazy about Matisse, Cezzane and Margaret Olley lately. I also love Gaughin. I wonder if you like some of these artists?

Hello Hanna,

I like Cezanne's works... except for his never ending array of still life's featuring fruit... & maybe a handful of Matisse's landscapes... the same goes for Gauguin, it is mostly his landscapes I like... & I'm very divided on Margaret Olley's work.... I think most of them are beautifully painted, but really apart from a few of the ones of a single vase/jug with flowers... I'm just not at all enamoured with them... I don't know why... having said that I do like quite a few of her drawings... what has appealed to you about their works?

There is a library in the big town where I go to the Dr, chemist etc... I have pondered about joining it... but that is as far as I've got... mostly because when I go into town I just want to do what I have to do & then get out...

The book by Kaz Cooke you're reading sounds like fun... I think there must be a never ending array of bad/silly advice given to women over the ages... I remember mum telling me that my grandmother who was born in 1893 was told (before she married) that if she showed her ankles she could get pregnant...

Very warm here so far today

Hugs

Hello Dear Hanna, Paws and everyone..🤗..

I usually use the bypass that bypasses the Main Street and shopping in O...This time I decided to drive through O...The trees along the side of the road are amass of different coloured leaves....They looked really amazing....I haven’t been in that town now for over 4 years to do any shopping....I am happy I drove through it...wow it was people and traffic busy.....just as I remembered it...

I do listen a long here to your conversations, but not being able to enjoy reading anymore are at a loss as to what to say....I now listen to audio books and do enjoy them....not the same as it used to be turning the pages and holding the book in my hands...but still gives me an escape from every day life....

I am sorry Paws that your not feeling the best, remember lovely friend that we are all here for you and ready to listen or chat whenever you feel up to it....

The weather is very different here than where I live...it’s so humid and hot...I’m guessing after all the rain they have had...the moisture is slowly drifting up again by our beautiful skies....to hold until another day....

How is little Sam doing Hanna...and big Woofa doing Paws...my fur babies are enjoying their reunion with their mum and grandmum....I often wonder if they recognise each other as family....lots of playful growls as they run around chasing each other or playing tug of war with an old sock...

I hope everyone reading here is having a good public holiday and enjoying themselves the best you can...

Hugs to everyone and all the fur/feathered friends that make our lives richer..

Grandy..
