Ive suffered from severe depression for 6 years, im 25. 14 months ago my whole world was turned upside down, I tried to end it all and was placed on life support for 10 days. I now suffer a terrible breathing condition called Glottic stenosis with bilateral vocal cord fixation. Ive had 8 operations in 14 months to try fix it all have been unsuccessful. On nov 12th I will have operation number 9 and be tracheostomy dependant for up to 1 month post opp. With these operations ive had most of my vocal cords cut out and ive lost majority of my voice that ill never get back 😞 I used to play state netball, now I can barely walk or shower without being out of breath. I guess im sharing my story to let you no its ok to not feel ok but before you act reach out to a loved one or support before you do anything that may change your life forever ❤️

Hey everyone 💜

thankyou for your kind words, means alot. So im having a small procedure next wednesday where I will be put to sleep and the surgeon is going to look down my airway with a camera. I hope the trach comes out but doesnt look that way 😞

mum spilled the beans, my surgeon told me id be trachd for 2 weeks he told mum 2 months 😞 it will be 1 month next week. Hes trying to protect me cause of my mental illness but I wish hed just be honest with me.

I was doing so well at the beginning but now im breaking at every turn, I admire people that live with these permanently I dont no how they do it.

Im so scared mine will turn permanent, I dont no what my future holds for me if that was to be the case.

Ill soldier on though cause I have no other choice. I started a facebook page about my journeyand have met so many great strangers through the page who are so supportive, its been the best thing ive ever done 🙂

Thanks once again

Nicola Xx

Hi Nicola,

Many years ago, shortly after we got married, my wife's Crohn's disease was getting to a life threatening level.  The doctors recommended a temporary ileostomy.  This worked wonders for her health, and we were able to have 2 kids.

Although my wife's health improved dramatically, her innards got worse.  By the time she was ready to have a reversal, it was not possible.  In reality it never was.

We found it easier to accept the operation on the basis of it being temporary.  We found it easier to accept it was permanent after being used to it.

My wife joined a support group to help other young people facing the same surgeries.  She makes an awesome role model, and I am sure she was a great help to those people.

I know that which ever way things turn out for you, you will be able to go on and make a difference to the world.  You have already made a positive difference to my life, and therefor my children, and we haven't even met.

I thank you for your posts and hope that you continue here.

You are amazing.

Tony
