Hi All,
So it's xmas day and I can't stop crying. I'm working today in a remote part of Australia so just want some support to get through the day. I've been suffering from glandular feve for about 3 months so I'm already feeling pretty run down and I read somewhere that depression is linked to this virus. I am also having to face my ex at work who broke it off when I first got sick which isn't helping. I haven't been able to stop crying all day and there's no real reason.
Any support or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Ap, welcome,
Depending on the person and the reason you are so upset, you can try a few things.
Diversion- diverting your mind from its current state to something else to focus on. Try watching TV, video games etc.
Spiritual solitaire- I often, when sad, climb a nearby hill and sit there, I observe, listen for animals, enjoy the scenery and simply exist without distraction.
Let it out- you might feel like putting on some music that you find sad. This will make you more emotional but it is likely you will feel better quicker.
Mind discipline- try thinking about the less fortunate, those will terrible injuries, the famine struck countries etc.
As for your ex...I knew a woman that had honed her ability to exist amongst her ex by not acknowledging his existence. She wasn't nasty but was determined to work around him in a factory without the emotional bond between them. It worked. Her resilience was remarkable.
Start a 2016 plan. Follow it. Above all smile.

I'm sorry to hear Christmas Day was hard for you. Being in a remote area would be isolating at times. Glandular Fever is a pain. I got it for the first time in early September this year, and felt the effects until early November. Every now and again, if I do too much at once, I feel really fatigued like I did when I had the illness. However, I think I am over Glandular Fever in general.
Have you been seeing a doctor during this period of illness? Does your workplace know about the diagnosis? When you aren't working, try to allow even just a little time to completely relax. This could be just reclining on the couch, listening to music with your eyes shut or watching a light-hearted movie. Make sure you eat a variety of nutritious food, including enough protein from foods such as lean meat, nuts, seeds, legumes and so on.
If you feel an intense urge to rest or nap, allowing yourself to at least lay back in a chair is helpful. I did this when I was home studying for uni, as I would get really sleepy at my desk. I realise that it would be really hard to do this at work. Perhaps you could eat lunch at your desk in the late morning, and use your lunch break to have a quick nap in a quiet area at work (if this is possible). If you explain the situation to your boss and say this could really help you be as productive as possible during the workday, it may be an acceptable way to prevent severe fatigue at work. My doctor told me that doing too much can make Glandular Fever take longer to recover from.
