STRUGGLING TO HAVE THE INCLINATION TO DO ANYTHING

HI,

I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY FOR A FEW MONTHS. I HAVE NOT WORKED FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. I AM SEE A PHYCOLIGIST.

I GUESS MY MAIN ISSUE AT THE MOMENT IS I DONT HAVE THE DRIVE/ INCLINATION TO DO ANYTHING.

HAVE TRIED WRITING A LIST, I DO ONE ITEM SOMETIMES ONLY 3/4 THE WAY THEN I LOSE MY WAY.

LAST TIME WAS AT WORK I DID AN HOUR THEN WENT TO THE BOSS AND SAID I DONT KNOW WHY BUT I DONT WANT TO BE HERE IAM A MESS.

I DONT KNOW WHERE TO GO FROM HERE.

Hello BAZZA61, people feeling like this tend to suffer from some type of depression, as you have told us, and by seeing a psychologistdoesn't necessarily mean that they would have found a reason why this has happened, sometimes it does a while for them to gather enough information to get a thorough understanding, and during this time, unfortunately, it is hard for yourself to see the forest for the trees.

At this stage your capability of working and being productive at work is minimal and suggest you get your doctor to give you a certificate for time off work, in addition to the two weeks off you have already.

If you don't feel as though you are achieving much help from your psychologist, then tell them so.

One thing to consider is whether work has caused this and would like to hear back from you.

I’m sorry your struggling so hard with depression and anxiety…

 

Depression seems to take all out happiness and motivation away from us, which makes it hard to do the simplest of jobs, it’s good your seeing a psychologist but as our lovely Geoff has said, sometimes it takes a while, working together with your psychologist to figure out what’s causing your depression…

 

Please don’t be hard on yourself about not being able to work right now, even though it’s really very hard to believe, things do change…

 

We have a thread called “Small achievements you did today”..it’s a thread that helps our beautiful forum family,  to write down small achieves we manage to do, as well as encouraging others reading the thread….even if you achieved getting out of bed…that can be huge on days of depression..

 

Please do look after yourself the best you can…self care at anytime is important but while going through depression is very important…even though at times it’s hard…

 

Please continue to talk here or/and the achievement’s thread anytime you feel up to it..

Depression and anxiety definitely present a whole different way of life. They present a whole new stack of challenges, on top of the challenges that can lead us to them. They can present a whole new lot of internal dialogue too which can be one of the hardest aspects to cope with. What would be nice to hear in our head is 'Under the circumstances, you're doing the best you can. That'll change when circumstances change. Be proud of yourself for coping with what you've never faced before. This is one of the toughest times in you're life'.

 

The circumstances of what lead us to depression and/or anxiety aren't always clear but once they are the internal dialogue changes, 'No wonder I feel so depressed and easily stressed. It all makes sense. Just about anyone would struggle. Under the circumstances, I can't believe I actually made it this far. I'm shocked by how well I've manged to cope 'til now'.

 

Sometimes you just don't see it coming. You can be coping with so much before you meet your threshold of tolerance, before your mind, body and soul all say in their own ways 'Enough is enough, you seriously need to address some significant issues now'. When it comes to some invisible set of scales, sometimes it's a matter of coping with 15 different challenges when the 16th comes along that tips the scales and it's breathtaking, suffocating, intolerable and it can lead you to tears. It can be the smallest thing, like being asked to go to the shop. All of a sudden you can't breathe. With little to do with the groceries, it's more about the overwhelming responsibilities that shift the weight to become unbearable. Suddenly you meet with the pure exhaustion, anxiety and depression that can come with so much unidentified responsibility and/or so many mind altering challenges and perhaps destructive belief systems (that've gotta go) that don't let you go any further. Basically, you're trying to function in a state of overwhelming exhaustion, wondering why you can only complete 3/4 of a job.

 

If you're able, take as much time as you need off work here and there in order to get to the bottom of things. Sometimes the detective work involved in finding the key culprits regarding the mystery (what's led us to such a point) can be like a full time job in itself. Time/space to breathe can be another need to be met.
