Shakey Times

Finding it hard to even say the problems I am battling let alone fighting to get through them. Had a recent medication change which has been a ride to hell. Striving to stay hopeful that the new meds should ease on the negative effects and turn to aid me in recovery from major depression. Its very difficult to recover when things you are trying to get over are still impacting to such a point that it feels the mind just isn't able to get enough traction to set up for recovery. One week or so down on new medication, hopefully the effects will turn positive sooner than later. Having to medicate way more than I wish to on stabilising meds.

Best Wishes to all who are also suffering.

Hi redmonster !

Welcome to the forum, and thank you for your best wishes to others who suffer.  Changing meds, or dosage, is often difficult.  In my case it was the dosage that kept changing for a period of time, and I just felt worse than before.  I have now stabilised on a dosage that I am comfortable with and after a long time am now starting to feel much better. There are of course always those bad days where you just want to stay in bed.  I guess what I am saying is, hang in there.  It will get better.  If it does not, talk to your psychiatrist or GP and maybe try another type of medication.  Many on this forum have found that they had to change meds several times before finding the right one.

I also can sympathise with the point you have made regarding recovery when the issues/triggers are still impacting on you.  Are you in a position to change that over time?  I have been working on slowly addressing all those triggers that affect my health.  In my case, just planning and working on that has been very therapeutic.

I have not been very helpful, but just letting you know that we are hearing you and wish you well.

Please keep posting and let us know how you are going.

Hi there redmonster (interesting name – always good to see different names in the forums and even better if those names reappear a few times – either with their own thread or on other threads)

Anyway, welcome to Beyond Blue and thank you for coming here.

I firstly have to disagree with Hideaway who suggested that they weren’t very helpful – I believe Hideaway provided you with a very good reply and some good insight into this whole mongrel illness – particularly in regard to medications.

I do hope that the gp also let you know that by going on to a new medication, it can take a period of weeks before the benefits of taking it will kick in.  You mentioned that you were one week down – don’t get dejected by that if nothing has happened yet, because it usually is a period of anywhere between 4-6 weeks before you notice changes (or hopefully you’ll notice changes).

Now when you mention that you’re fighting to get through your problems – one of the biggest steps is to seek out professional help (and giddy up there, cause you’ve already been to a gp, so that’s a super start).  May I ask what other avenues of help have you sought out to help you, fight the fight?   Any professional counselling at all?

Other things can be going to work?   That can be an iffy one though – but if your work is a good place and you enjoy it, then that can be very beneficial, as it occupies the mind for a good period of time and hence, it keeps the dog back in its kennel for some time – and anytime in the kennel is good.

Also what interests, hobbies or any sports kind of things may you have or are interested in?   Things to help occupy you, get you out and about, etc?

Even pets are a great option here also.

Now I believe I’VE rambled – so I’ll send this off and do hope to hear back from you.

Kind regards

Neil
