Hi,
I am back in a bit of a funk after having about three months symptom free (that is a loooong time for me!). Even though I’ve had depression for the best part of 15 years I still find every funk difficult and fear that it won’t go away this time. I just find it hard to accept that I have this disease as I have a lot of things going for me and I generally don’t have any major troubles in my life - just a brain that doesn’t want to function normally. I don’t really know what I am getting at with this post but just felt the need to blurt it out

Hello D Walsh
Welcome back and that is so great to hear that you have had 3 months of life and hopefully some really great times. It is also great that you feel comfort here to come back to chat when you are feeling not so great and you know it is a place to dump and to get some comfort and support.
It is a journey this getting well thing and I am hoping that you can put some hope in the fact that in the past you have been able to manage it to a point of having a symptom free 3 months, that this is possible and you are doing things right to take care of your mental health, that therefore there is a very very good chance that you will be able to move to that space again, it is very possible, you have done it before.
As you know troubles in life don't always equal depression and that is just kind of arrives when it pleases but you are here and talking and that is great. What sort of things do you do like hobbies or interests that you can do to be kind to you and give yourself some enjoyment? can you recall things in the past that you have done that have also helped in making you feel better?
Do you feel like you might need to check in with your GP, just to check in and to let them know you are struggling a bit at the moment, that might be an option too.
Huge hugs to you D Walsh I hope you come back to chat some more, we are here for you.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah there are things that I enjoy doing but currently I have no motivation to do them and thus brings about more feelings of frustration as I normally love doing them.
I know it goes away. It is just hard to see the light when struggling back in the cave

Hello D Walsh
I am really pleased to hear that you do have some things that make you happy, that is a first step, I hear you that your lack of motivation is stopping you, can you perhaps go against everything those thoughts are telling you, as they are just that, thoughts and not truths, and attempt one of the things that make you happy, I feel like once you start it might put you into a positive cycle and one foot in front of the other will lead to another step and another step in the journey to wellness. I know it is hard and you sound so tired and so exhausted, I am so sorry you are feeling so bad.
What are some of the things you do enjoy doing, if you want to share that is..I really love writing when I am feeling bad, to vomit it all out on a page and it never makes sense and it is for no one to read, I never even re read it myself, but it always makes me feel good, and like it is out and purged.

Yes I am definitely tired and exhausted. Sleep quality really disappears for me when I am in a funk and then everything goes out the window. What I wouldn’t do for a 12 hour uninterrupted sleep!! Kids, business and early morning waking makes that a no go zone for me.
im going to try and do some light exercise today as I am normally someone who loves to keep fit. I know it helps to lift the cloud but it doesn’t do it straight away and doing the exercise that I usually find easy becomes hard
Just a day at a time I guess

Hi D Walsh
Great to hear that you are going to get some light exercise in today, that will sure make you feel a little better. The fresh air and some change of scenery too will be great. I hear you with the sleep, that would be amazing a 12 hour sleep, wow...
You sound like you have a great attitude to all of this and that is wonderful to hear, it does take time and as long as you are trying that is all that you can do, one day at a time and one foot in front of the other.
Hope to hear how you are feeling after your walk.
