Negative thoughts never disappear!

I hate having to battle my mind every single day im alive. Trying to beat the thoughts telling me all day that im a nobody, loser, ugly, fat, etceven though nothing directly has occurred sometimes to make me feel this way. It is such a tiring and draining battle 24/7 365 days a year fight to be in a fight that never ever ends and the mind never lets up. Im starting to feel that nothing short of a mind transplant will fix me.

Some people would look at my life and say im a lucky person and there are most certainly people worse off than myself so why wont my mind accept that and let me just get on with my life and stop thinking negative thoughts whilst im not dorment and asleep. I feel like I cant keep fighting a battle I cant seem to win it just absolutely destroys my morale and doesn't allow me to start regaining my lost confidence and self esteem.

I cant ever remember being confident or having self esteem it was never allowed to develop when I was a child. Being constantly put down by your parents will do that to a person I guess.

Surely there must be something or someone out there that can help a person who really doesn't know where to turn next. I have honestly tried nearly everything out there and im still here today 32 feeling worse than ever. My life isn't even that bad but my mind just wont see it and believe it. I consciously know this fact yet still cant change my state of mind.

Hi Dj ☺

Honestly my heart goes out to you, I'm so sorry for your early vulnerable yrs of life being so harsh.

I can empathise without that start in life how you feel about yourself & over time with a lot of pain as you're feeling I have begun to start to like myself as I dearly hope you too will be able to achieve. It's involved hard looking inside, thinking from an objective viewpoint looking from outside in & allowing to see the goods which majority of us have. This doesn't happen overnight but we spend every breath with ourselves only so liking ourselves is a must

Sometimes just a sentence can make a difference, someone here said depression makes us believe we're worthless but .."we don't have to believe it". Gold.

Another excellent point is it becomes habit to think this way, I'm working on emotional control & have realised we (most) can only have one thought at a time. If we can force ourselves to make thoughts neutral or positive the negatives occupy less space.

I also have started successfully challenging the negatives

  • Is it just a rubbish downer thought as in can anything be done about it, if not let it flow through by not giving it anymore thought
  • Internal hard no nonsense self talk, no I'm not accepting that, it kinda brings in logical thinking
  • Distraction, a great Community champion Starwolf said she looks around but doesn't give thought to anything or you can which temporarily stops negatives
  • I've realised to if we attach emotion to thoughts as in thinking how it makes us feel it pulls us down

Do you see any professionals for counselling Dj & are you on any meds?

A huge help is believing we can get through, I believe we have strength its just pulling it back up that can in most cases be achieved

Happy to be here for you anytime you want to chat

Hi djp

You are indeed lucky. You ate one of the few negative thinkers that actually knows that you have an issue. Insight is invaluable., priceless.

In addition to db's good advice, seek out any measures to become positive. Like, attending motivation lectures. Joining a positive group like a voluntary group ie cfa or salvoes for a few hours a week.

Dont ever give up becoming a positive person however allow for your human nature for many relapses in the process. Dont be cruel to yourself. The journey to the moountain of confidence included hills and valleys.

So, please read those, even just the first post. Praise yourself for acknowledging your own efforts, accept that you will seesaw from negative to positive as that is natural and participate in positive environments.

Good luck. Repost anytime in those threads or here

Hi DJPTigerland140414,

We hope you're finding the responses from the online community helpful.  We're going to close this thread off as you have a number of open threads for support.  The links are provided below for the benefit of those responding to you:

Officially giving up the drink

When seeking support on the forums, we really encourage members to use one thread rather than starting new ones all the time.  It's really difficult for the community to keep up with your story if you have a lot of threads going at once, and you may find yourself having to repeat information if your story is spread across the forum - sometimes our members will be repeating themselves as well if it's an issue you've had previously.

Help us to support you by keeping to one thread, even if you're returning here after a period of time.  There's a lot of value in seeing how someone's story evolves over time, and when facing a new crisis it's helpful to scroll back and see how you've coped previously.
