How to push myself to do stuff when I can’t and no one else can

How do I get pushed to do stuff if I can’t push myself and I have no one else to do it. I have assignments and shopping, washing, cleaning, etc but can’t bring myself to do. Can’t do it. I don’t have anyone else to help me or support me or give me a boost. What do you do to do stuff?

Hi FF,

You are snowed under, and you are alone. The fact is that if you had a partner things are so much easier. More income, more hands for chores, at times he/she can give you a hand and visa versa.

So are you being too hard on yourself? Well there is a good question? Two words- realistic and reasonable. Both of those words combine to an expectation of yourself that makes up a "manageable" level of workload.

Another one is "pacing". Pacing yourself allows you to draw up a routine to manage your "stuff" better. Like a diary place tasks in it on a regular basis. eg Sunday arvo study so your mind is fresh for uni the next day. Give away Friday night for night clubbing and only do it Saturday that frees up one extra night for study. Monday nights is chore night etc.

Prioritize. Eating sleeping, income, pay bills are all top priorities. Many people cant place these at the top of the tree and get themselves into trouble.

You need to IMO create a schedule for the entire week. And then you have to commit your self to that schedule.

Specifically on assignments... If you can start an assessment the first day you get it and do an hour a day on it, you will be surprised by when you finish it.

On study again... Read texts and papers during meals if you are alone.

Can you multitask?

Can you listen to lectures while doing other things?

I am doing a BTh part-time and working and cook etc. And I know what it's like to feel overwhelmed by it all. Not knowing what to do next.

Hopefully one day it will all click for you, but to get there takes many steps.

Do you have a study buddy?
