Hi there. I am new to the forum. I'll introduce myself in the other section.
I am currently on an antipdepressant for depression. I have been up and down doses for over 6 years now. The past week or so, I have been feeling really low, more irratable then normal and just lacking enthusiasm. No idea what's happened. I hate this feeling, I really do. The things I use to enjoy I no longer do.
I just feel like going to bed and staying there.

Hi scbejari,
Sorry to hear that you are going through such a tough time and for so long. I read a book once titled 'Depression - disease of the strong'. I love the title because it really does take strong people to live with it. It also says that people with depression are high achievers and very caring which is why we can easily fall into feeling not worthy or letting people down. To be dealing with this for 6 years, you must be an incredibly strong person.
I know the feeling of just wanting to stay in bed all day, every day. The brain tries to treat depression like a sickness - it goes into rest and recovery mode. Unfortunately, the brain is doing the exact opposite to what it should be doing - it feeds the depression. We need to be active and social.
My advice is, mentally try and break the feeling of wanting to sleep all the time. Go out with friends and be social. You will have your moments but persist and it will be better than sitting in your room.
I hope I've been some sort of help to you.
🙂

Hi there scbejari
Welcome to Beyond Blue and thank you for providing your post.
Just with reading this post, may I ask how long you’ve been on your current medication for now? Do you feel that it might not be delivering all that it should anymore? If it’s been a while, it can never harm to get to your gp to discuss a review?
Also not sure where you are (and we don’t need to know), but with this winter and the cold (minus 6 for me this morning), this kind of weather is sure not conducive for most people to be up five and lively. I’m not much of a winter person, so yeah, combined with our depression, cold weather can also be a big factor in contributing more to our feeling.
Do hope you can pop back and post again.
Neil

Thanks for the replies. I am scared to change meds due to the transition and how it makes me feel. No harm in talking with my GP though.
The weather is cold here but I do like it. Not that I am up too early though.
