Hi Gareth, so sorry to hear you're going through a troubling time. I also struggle and it is horrible. I just wanted to leave a suggestion, maybe you could consider talk therapy, whether it be face to face or online. Has your doctor prescribed you any medication to consider? If so, it might be worth giving that a try and sticking with it. Keep in mind that there is a pretty yucky adjustment phase with beginning medication and it is very important to do this under advice from a medical professional such as a doctor or psychiatrist. Other than that, enjoying some fresh air and time outside is great. Do you have any pets? Spending time with a furry friend is also wonderful. Do you have any passions or hobbies? Connecting with these can be a good start. Even if you don't have the energy to do so, one small thing might be an idea to set as a goal. Gareth I truly wish you the best in your health journey and wish you all the best in the world!!

Hello to both of you, garreth 46 & zarakennedy & welcome to the forum.

There is much information on this website, suggestions & ideas from the many people who've had experiences with depression. You could find much by going to the main forums page, (there's a link just above the word 'Topic' in large font on the left hand side above these posts. Next to this 'Forums' link, on this page, you can find 'Depression' link, which will take you to where all Threads listed under this category can be found.

Also a link, 'Online Forums' in the area at the top right corner of this page. These items are found on most if not all pages of this website.

Following this link will take you to where all the various sections & categories are listed, with a short description of what you may read there. It is important to read these, as some areas may be confronting.

I'd recommend anything about Staying Well or Keeping Well, as these have lots of suggestions, examples of what many people do to help them cope, live with or recover from their own mental health challenges.

Honestly, there are so many things which may help both of you. Talking may be one of the things which helps. Personally, I find it does. I don't feel nearly so isolated talking to people here.

You are welcome to talk as you wish, to ask questions, to post to other threads, as much or little as you like. 😺

I'd like to ask you, garreth, did someone tell you your depression won't get better, or is it that you don't feel it is getting better after 7 months? I wasn't quite clear about what you meant.

The first posts can be very difficult to write & post, & you both did, & have met eachother! This is one of the great things about this site, how we meet & support each other through some tough times.😺

Hi gareth 46 and zarakennedy

Welcome to the forum. I agree with zarakennedy that you may try talk therapy (long term) if it is available. It's hard to offer some particular advice because everyone's journey is different and no one's lens fits every situation. especially since many ppl (including myself) that suffer from depression have many underlying issues. from my experience and ppl I know, medicine prescriptions did help that makes us feel more "normal", aside from that, I found that being active and making easy small plans (to make life more arranged but not busier) did help lift my up emotionally. It starts with baby steps, I think a supportive friend would be very helpful for starting your own journey.

Hello Garreth 46 and Zarakennedy, if unfortunately, you do believe you are suffering from any type of depression, your first belief is that it's never going to get better and you struggle with this and have no motivation, don't want to do anything until finally you are convinced by someone that you need to visit your doctor so that you can be diagnosed , then the appropriate treatment is suggested for you.

The doctor can offer you a 'mental health plan' which entitles you to 10 Medicare paid sessions to see either a psychologist or a psychiatrist per year, and if I can suggest that's it's important that you have someone who you feel comfortable talking to, then you will be able to address the problems you're struggling with.

Best wishes.

Geoff.
