Depression unsure what is wrong

Hi there been off work since August waiting for knee surgery, struggling at home i tend to get angry real easily, also stress from my 7 year old daughter isn't helping. The other night i felt very upset i just wanted to walk away from all the problems in my life. My mind was telling me to do things that I'd never do personally. Then again this morning with the pressure of not working, problems at home and various health issues on top of my daughter not even getting dressed for school has just about brought me to breaking point again and unsure what to do. Even thinking of talking about worries gets me upset.

Hi, i read your post and wanted to reply, not sure if i can help.

I thought that this quote might help "Pain is when your life conditions don't match your model of the world, but suffering is when your life conditions don't match your model of the world and you feel powerless to change it."

I feel you feel powerless to change what is going on around you. things are falling apart around you and the only way to regain control is to escape. You are anxious and scared of whats happening around you and you are reacting from an anxious and scared place. running away and hiding in a corner and telling yourself to pull yourself back in feels like it's the best answer. Maybe you can find a way to do this without sacrificing everything you already have. Maybe communication with those around you, just open honest communication saying you need some alone time to collect your thoughts and feel safe within yourself, a way of meditating and working from a place of security and calmness. Perhaps your daughter can watch one of her favourite movies whilst you sit it in the sun and you can walk barefoot on the earth or have an extra long nice shower to yourself.

i hope this helps in some way.

Hi tjg83,

Now I will admit that I have absolutely no experience with kids, or with adult life (I'm only 17), but I know how it feels to get frustrated easily at minor things, I know what it's like to have your brain feed you ideas that you know aren't your own.

I've learnt a lot about myself over the past month and a half (which doesn't seem like long in terms of everything else). What I learnt is that talking about your worries and your thoughts, although they are daunting and upsetting, are a great way to move towards a better head space. For the past 3 years I'd bottled up my emotions, my fears, my thoughts, everything. But when I finally came forward to talk to someone about it I started to feel better. About a week ago, I finally got the courage to tell my dad about my depression and I was so terrified I was sitting there shaking and crying just trying to explain what I'd been feeling. And yes, I was petrified but I know it was an important step, and that it's going to benefit me in the long run.

I know I'm just a kid, but I really do recommend talking to someone about your worries, it'll benefit you and your daughter greatly. Maybe go see your GP and explain, and then ask for a referral for a psychologist? Psychs are really good for helping, you just need to find one you are suited to.

I hope to hear from you soon,

Julia

Good god I hear you. I brought up three teenagers and they nearly ended me. That alone is hard without all the other troubles. Have a look at some memes on the mamamia site about dealing with kids and maybe have a little laugh. It might lift your spirits for a while.
