Im wondering if anyone else that is generally shy/socially anxious has been diagnosed with bipolar 2?

Hi Fallen Angel,

Welcome to the forums and it is great to have you here. You will find these forums as a loving, caring and non-judgmental place where you can post as much or as little as you please. I hope that you find these forums beneficial to you and you find some of the answers you are looking for 🙂

Being shy and social anxious is super common and they are qualities many of us possess, me included. There would absolutely be people out there who have been and are going through what your going through.

Questioning your diagnosis is important and you have every right to do so. It may be a good idea seeing another health professional and seeking a second, third or even fourth opinion. May I ask if you were diagnosed with having Bipolar 2 by a psychiatrist or your GP or? I definitely believe getting another opinion from a health professional is the way to go.

You may also want to consult your health professionals about whether your general shyness and social anxious behaviours/feelings are a result of an underlying condition.

I hope to hear from you again shortly and look forward to seeing you around on the forums in the future.

Enjoy your holiday break and the New Year.

Nick.

Hi, welcome

Nick hot the nail on the head, question your diagnosis if you feel like it.

In 2003 I was diagnosed with ADHD and depression. For 6 years I took subsequent medication. In 2009, after I'd taken 12 different medications over 6 years I was rediagnosed by another psych and found to have bipolar 2, depression and dysthymia. My mania was mistaken for ADHD and quite frankly that is unforgivable.

My bipolar main symptom is moodiness. The extremes from depressed moodiness to an abundance of energy (manic) is clear. When manic I can remain awake for long periods, when moody I'm snappy and intolerant. I'm also creative, inventive and adventuristic.

Read up as much as you can and seek a second opinion.

Thanks Nick and White Knight,

I was diagnosed by phychiatrist and psychologist, and my GP aggred but but he's pretty useless with mental health.

I'm the same as you with the staying awake, energetic, creative and starting a bunch of stuff - adventuristic if is a good way of putting it! but Im never really outgoing (if sober) or as impulsive as others with bp seem to get.. and of course the crashing horribly part fits.
