So I'v made some really awesome recovery after a very acute episode of depression; after three weeks on the medication my appetite returned and I was feeling human again and after a month I was working full time again and keeping very busy and active (but to be honest I was still in shock from what I had experienced).
Anyways, past week I've noticed the depression crawling back. I've been on the AD's for two and a half months--this week was significant enough that I've taken my first day off work (my boss knows about my bad brain and is very understanding) Sleep is interrupted and I feel like I'm slipping back into destructive thought patterns (existential rumination coming back). It's been three days maybe like this. I've booked into to see a GP but my GP is overseas and he has worked very closely with me over the past three months. So it's really shitty that I have to see someone new.
I'm not sure what I am asking but is it common for an AD to work then stop working within the first three months? Oh should I just wait this one out?
X

Hello Bigstar
I see you've been around for awhile. Not sure we've connected yet though.
I'm on AD, and have recently had an increase in dosage because I started going down again. There had been a change in my circumstances though, I'd just retired, had a fall that put me out of action for a little while, my first veggie garden crop had failed and other medication I was taking had to be changed. So in all, there was a fairly good reason for why my AD medication needed a boost. That was almost 6 months ago now. I'm still not how I'd like to be, but I'm beginning to realise that 'depression' is something that is not only managed with medication, but also requires my ongoing management via different methods.
There is an excellent thread here by Mrs Doolsdorf under the Depression Forum called Depression: Fight It or Embrace It. I have found this very enlightening. It gives me a real insight into depression and how it manifests itself and how people manage it. If you want to, no pressure, have a look at that thread - do a search in the BB search field for the title.
Hope this helps Bigstar. I'm sure the doctor you'll see tomorrow should also be able to help you understand a little more too.
Keep reaching out here, if you want to that is.
Kind regards
PamelaR

I saw the GP who confessed to me instantly that he had been on AD's for almost three decades. And instantly I was relieved because talking to a GP who doesn't 'get it' can be a really frustrating experience.
He talked to me about how I was going to manage it and how it was going to be a lifelong thing. I'm still in early days, three months ago I tried admitting myself to hospital and never thought I'd be where I am now; which is alive. But yeah--the depression has come back this week and hit me pretty hard again. More like an annoying voice in my head telling me everything I love doing is just bullshit and meaningless and my appetite is suffering too.
GP told me I was on the lowest dose for my AD and so he has doubled the dose and it's all a waiting game to see how I'll go from here. He said it will take up to 7 days to start feeling the benefits so I hope I go back to feeling as good as I was two weeks ago because man it felt good to be human again even if it was temporary.

Hi big tar,
Something similar happen to me. I was doing well on my AD then at 8-9 weeks all of a sudden I had this horrible day where I was so depressed and panicking, i could have checked myself into hospital which is pretty extreme for me. I went down hill and my dr changed my meds straight away. Doing pretty good on this one.
All the best

Hi,
Before I started on my current dosage I was all over the shop with effectiveness. I have found that trying to maintain a reasonably consistent diet, as different foods/herbs can affect the AD, and trying to get regular sleep patterns to be the greatest help. It is difficult at first but just concentrating on breathing in and out as a form of mindfulness can help falling asleep.
