hi all.
yes Bill just stands out to me. I was watching the videos on Youtube of his Who Do You Think You Are? episode. I wish I could watch the whole thing somewhere. he seems like a nice guy, I've read stuff where people said he was a bit moody and a bit rude but what's to say the person who wrote that wasn't rude to poor Bill? plus he does suffer with mental health issues & maybe he just wants to be left alone like in public or whatever. he does appreciate his fans I'm sure but they deserve privacy too.

Dear BritishTVfan~
Yes I watched the same episode dealing wiht Bill Oddie's life. It looks like he was happiest in that bird watching hut. I was surprised when he said a doctor watched one episode of the Goodies and recognized he had a bipolar condition.
This prompted me to look at his Wikipedia page and I was amazed, with music, acting and comedy as well as over a dozen nature shows. The appeared in "That was the week that was" (TW3) with David Frost in 1962 and more recently "The Two Ronnies" in 2018 and still going strong. He seems to have been into everything from music to serious shows.
I guess my favorite appearance of his was as ""master of the secret Lancashire martial art known as "Ecky Thump"—which mostly revolves around hitting unsuspecting people with black puddings while wearing flat caps and braces."

hi Croix, sorry for the slow reply. I hardly even go on these forums anymore. yes I've seen that episode when it was on Foxtel. I've been trying to watch them all from the beginning online too although some are bad quality, sound is fine but the video is a bit blurry. Maybe one day I'll get the DVDs and maybe other merch I can find such as their books.

Dear BritishTVfan~
No worries abut speed, you write whenever. Actually I'm very glad you did as you mentioned the Goodies' books, and I had no idea they had written any. I'll be pestering my library to see if the have any. Did htey write them as 'The Goodies" or by thier individual names?

Dear Quirky~
I blush to admit it however I'm not familiar with Bill Bailey. I don't get to see much TV and if I want to relax watch one of my DVD collection or read. Sadly that means I miss out on some pretty good stuff at times.
I do approve of black boots however, I'm not sure what color Nancy Sinatra approves of (Tim approves of ssshiny ssshoes:)

Hi britishtvfan, Croix, Quirky and All,
I really like Bill Bailey. He’s kind of similar to Bill Oddie as he also loves birds and other wildlife, and has even written a book about British birds. I listened to a great interview with him a few years ago on ABC Radio. He described how on a visit to China with his family they found a beautiful Eurasian hawk owl that was in a cage in a restaurant. The owl, like other live animals there, was there to be eaten by any customers who were interested. He couldn’t bear the thought of that and so negotiated to buy the owl from the restaurant owners who eventually agreed. The owl had to be taped up because of sharp talons and beak and put in a box. Bill then rang a zookeeper friend in the UK for advice. He ended up getting a taxi driver to drive into the woods hoping this would be good habitat to release the owl. It was very tricky as the owl was very feisty, a good sign the owl’s spirit was still intact. They successfully managed to remove the tape and set the owl free.
Quirky, I like Bill Bailey in Black Books and panel shows too. His character of Manny in Black Books is so good natured and such a contrast to the ever grumpy Bernard. He is so amazingly patient with Bernard. I love the character of Fran too. She is such an offbeat, quirky character. Some episodes were better than others. The humour was definitely dark at times, but also quite hilarious at times too.

Dear ER~
You have good friends. I do hope that owl got clean away.
I'll have to see if I can find Black Books as it seems you all approve of it.

Hi Croix,
I particularly liked the first episode of the first series of Black Books. Some episodes were sometimes not so great and it was a bit dark sometimes, while other episodes had me in stitches. I think the three characters of Bernard, Manny and Fran were great. I wondered when it was first made and just looked it up and it was 2000-2004.
The owl apparently did get clean away. When it was first let go it hissed at them and let them know it wasn't happy. Not surprising after ending up in a cage in a restaurant, then being taped up and put in a box!
I hope all is well on the iceberg! It has been nice weather lately so I imagine good for a walrus for sunbathing.
Best wishes,
ER

Hello again All,
For those who like Bill Bailey, a series is starting this Thursday on the ABC at 8pm called Bill Bailey’s Wild West Australia where he explores the state of WA. I saw an ad for it earlier tonight. Unable to sleep again and awake at this ungodly hour I thought I may as well share that info.
I hope you are all sleeping 😴
